The Role
The Technical Applications & Support Specialist is a hands-on technical role supporting both our customers and our internal engineering projects.
You'll operate and maintain 3D printers and scanners, execute customer printing and scanning projects, troubleshoot and repair equipment, provide technical support, install systems, and train customers.
You'll also work alongside our engineering team on prototypes, applications, testing, scanning, and additive manufacturing projects.
This is not a call-center support job.
You'll be physically working with machines, parts, materials, software, customers, and engineering projects every day.
About 3DChimera
3DChimera is a Miami-based advanced manufacturing technology company helping manufacturers solve real-world problems using 3D printing, 3D scanning, mechanical design, CAD software, and engineering services.
We sell, support, and operate professional and industrial manufacturing technologies—and we use those same technologies every day for customer projects.
We're looking for a technically capable, hands-on person with real 3D printing experience who wants to build a career working across additive manufacturing, 3D scanning, customer applications, equipment service, and technical support.
What You'll Do
- Operate professional and industrial 3D printers
- Operate 3D scanners and perform customer scanning projects
- Prepare, slice, launch, monitor, and complete print jobs
- Perform build preparation, part removal, cleaning, post-processing, and finishing
- Maintain printers, scanners, and related equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, software, and process-related equipment problems
- Perform equipment repairs, maintenance, calibration, and component replacement
- Provide first-line technical support to customers by phone, email, remote session, and in person
- Install and commission equipment at customer facilities
- Train customers on equipment operation, maintenance, software, and workflows
- Support customer demonstrations, sample builds, evaluations, and trade shows
- Assist our engineering team with prototypes, testing, scanning, printing, and project execution
- Document service activities, procedures, recurring problems, and solutions
- Maintain equipment, tools, materials, spare parts, and technical work areas
- Escalate complex engineering or technical issues when appropriate
What We're Looking For
Prior hands-on 3D printing experience is required.
We're looking for someone who has actually operated, maintained, repaired, built, or extensively worked with 3D printing equipment.
Your experience might come from:
- A 3D printing or additive manufacturing company
- An equipment manufacturer or reseller
- A manufacturing environment
- A university or technical lab
- A makerspace
- Field service or equipment repair
- Serious hands-on personal experience with additive manufacturing
A four-year engineering degree is not required.
We care much more about whether you're technically capable, mechanically curious, comfortable around equipment, good with customers, and able to methodically figure out why something isn't working.
You Should Be Comfortable With
- Taking equipment apart—and getting it back together correctly
- Diagnosing mechanical and basic electrical problems
- Learning unfamiliar machines and software
- Following and developing technical procedures
- Working independently
- Managing multiple customer and internal projects
- Talking customers through technical problems
- Explaining technical concepts clearly
- Keeping good notes and documenting your work
- Knowing when to keep troubleshooting and when to escalate
- Occasionally traveling to customer facilities for installation, training, or service
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- 3D scanning
- Reverse engineering
- FFF/FDM 3D printing
- SLS 3D printing
- SLA/DLP resin printing
- Bambu Lab equipment
- Industrial additive manufacturing systems
- Shining3D scanners
- SOLIDWORKS
- CAD
- Field service
- Electromechanical troubleshooting
- Customer training
- Manufacturing equipment
- Technical customer support
You don't need to know every technology we work with on day one. You do need enough relevant hands-on experience that we're building on an existing technical foundation rather than starting from zero.
What Success Looks Like
Our equipment runs reliably.
Customer printing and scanning projects get completed accurately and on time.
Customers receive fast, competent technical support.
Problems get diagnosed and solved rather than simply passed along.
Our engineers are able to focus on engineering while you take ownership of equipment operation, routine applications work, service, and first-line support.
Over time, you become someone our customers and team trust when something needs to work.
Why 3DChimera?
You'll get hands-on experience with a much wider range of advanced manufacturing technologies than you would operating one machine or supporting one product all day.
You'll work directly with engineers, customers, manufacturers, and new technologies across 3D printing, 3D scanning, design, reverse engineering, and advanced manufacturing.
This is a great fit for someone who genuinely likes machines, likes helping people, and gets satisfaction from figuring out how things work.
