Summary:
An early-career engineer contributing to the VHAL and Car Framework under the guidance of senior engineers. Focuses on well-scoped implementation tasks, tests, tooling and defect fixes while rapidly building depth in AOSP and automotive concepts.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Implementation & Support:
- Implement small, well-specified changes: add a property to the property-config set, extend an existing signal mapping, add a getter/setter path, wire a new callback.
- Write and maintain unit tests for existing and new code improve coverage on assigned modules.
- Build and maintain development and test tooling: property injection scripts, log parsers, simple signal simulators, test fixtures.
- Assist with build, flash and bring-up activities on development boards and target head units.
- Reproduce reported defects, gather logs and traces, and fix straightforward issues with guidance.
Learning & Collaboration:
- Actively learn the AOSP build and development workflow, the Car Framework property model, and the team's codebase conventions.
- Participate in code reviews as a reviewer (to learn) and reviewee (to improve).
- Maintain documentation: property catalogue updates, setup guides, troubleshooting notes.
- Escalate blockers early and clearly.
Professional & Technical Skills:
- 3+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful Android or embedded systems exposure.
- Competent Java and/or Kotlin able to write clear, working code and unit tests independently.
- Working C++ fundamentals: syntax, classes, pointers/references, STL basics able to read and modify existing C++ with support.
- Understanding of Android application and service fundamentals: components, lifecycle, Service, AIDL at a usage level, permissions.
- Basic Linux command-line competence Git fluency.
- Willingness and demonstrated ability to learn platform-level concepts quickly.
- C++. Java, Kotlin, Rust, Python / Bash
Good to have:
- Any prior AOSP exposure — building an image, writing a system app, or working with a custom ROM.
- Awareness of automotive concepts: CAN bus, ECU, infotainment architecture.
- Exposure to the Android Automotive emulator or AAOS app development.
- Scripting in Python or Bash.
