Position Overview:

The Merchandise Manager is responsible for developing, executing, and overseeing the retail merchandise strategy across the Adair Family Wines portfolio. This role is responsible for creating a cohesive yet property-specific retail experience that reflects the unique identity of each winery while maximizing retail revenue, improving inventory performance, and elevating the overall guest experience.

The Merchandise Manager will oversee the complete merchandise lifecycle—from product sourcing and purchasing to inventory management, merchandising, pricing, online retail, and performance analysis. This individual will work closely with Estate Managers, Hospitality, Marketing, Events, Membership, and Finance to ensure retail operations support the company's overall business objectives.

Responsibilities:

Merchandise Procurement & Management

· Procure Merchandise: Lead the selection, procurement, and replenishment of merchandise that aligns with Adair Family Wines’ brand identity and customer preferences.

· Inventory Control & Management: Maintain accurate inventory levels across all tasting rooms, ensuring proper SKU tracking, compliance entries, and product labeling across eCommerce and ShipCompliant platforms.

· Inventory Audits: Lead monthly merchandise inventory audits across all tasting room locations, reporting findings to the finance department for reconciliation and forecasting.

· Product Development Strategy: Assist in the creation of product strategies based on financial goals, brand objectives, consumer insights, and seasonal trends.

· Trend Monitoring: Regularly monitor market trends, sell-through data, and customer feedback to identify new product opportunities, improve margins, and optimize inventory.

Merchandise Display & Sales

· Merchandise Display: Design and maintain visually appealing merchandise displays across all tasting rooms, ensuring alignment with brand aesthetics and seasonal campaigns. Regularly update displays to promote new products, seasonal offerings, and exclusive releases.

· Guest Interaction: Occasionally engage with winery guests in the tasting room or other events to highlight merchandise and suggest products, driving sales and enhancing the guest experience.

· Product Knowledge: Educate guests on product offerings and wine-related merchandise, enhancing their experience and encouraging additional purchases.

Leadership & Staff Training

· Staff Training: Provide hands-on training to tasting room staff on merchandise handling, point-of-sale system functions, inventory management, and product knowledge. Ensure that team members are well-equipped to handle merchandise sales and accurately track inventory.

· Process Standardization: Standardize merchandise management processes across all tasting room locations, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and a cohesive brand experience.

· Team Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for merchandise-related inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating across departments.

On-Site Leadership & Engagement

· Estate Engagement: Travel regularly to each estate location to oversee inventory management, update displays, conduct audits, and provide hands-on leadership to ensure high merchandising standards.

· System Implementation & Oversight: Support system implementation and assist in updating and refining inventory processes as necessary to maintain efficiency and accuracy across all locations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Retail Management, Business, Marketing, Hospitality, Merchandising, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of retail merchandising, buying, inventory management, or luxury retail experience.
  • Multi-location retail management experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience within wine, hospitality, luxury goods, lifestyle brands, or specialty retail preferred.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management systems and POS platforms.
  • Experience with retail analytics and financial reporting.
  • Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across several locations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, inventory management software, and retail reporting systems.

Physical Requirements

· Frequent travel between multiple estate locations within the brand portfolio.

· The role is physically demanding, involving regular lifting, inventory handling, and active participation in on-site merchandising activities and audits.

· Extended Periods of Standing & Walking. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs and ladders, balance, crouch and communicate clearly.

· Able to lift, carry and move up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions

· Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including long hours, varied shifts and weekends.

· Must be comfortable working independently and able to shift between guest service and behind-the-scenes tasks.

· Close collaboration with team members in a fast-moving, guest-centric environment.

Pay: $72,000.00 per year
