Advanced Equipment Inc. is a Richmond\-based manufacturer with more than 30 years of experience designing and manufacturing customized industrial freezing systems for food\-processing customers worldwide. Our products include spiral freezers, tunnel freezers, modular systems, conveyors, and related food\-processing equipment.
We are looking for a hands\-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. This position is best suited for an intermediate\-level mechanical engineer with solid experience in custom machinery or industrial equipment design who is ready to take on increasing technical responsibility.
The successful candidate will be involved in mechanical design, engineering calculations, cost estimation, manufacturing support, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. This is a practical, in\-office engineering role that requires close collaboration with our production team and regular involvement on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design and Engineering
* Design and develop customized industrial freezer systems, conveyors, structural assemblies, and related mechanical equipment. * Prepare and review 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and engineering documentation. * Design welded structures, sheet metal components, machined parts, shafts, supports, frames, guards, platforms, and mechanical assemblies. * Perform mechanical calculations and assist with equipment sizing, component selection, utility requirements, and design verification. * Apply sound engineering principles, GD\&T, tolerance analysis, and design\-for\-manufacturing practices. * Participate in design reviews and help identify technical, manufacturing, and installation risks. * Maintain accurate design records, revisions, and engineering documentation.
Costing and Project Support
* Assist with equipment costing, material take\-offs, labour\-hour estimates, and technical input for quotations. * Review customer requirements and translate them into practical, manufacturable mechanical solutions. * Support Sales and Project Management by providing technical information for proposals and project execution. * Help improve existing costing models, calculation templates, and estimating tools. * Coordinate technical requirements, scope, schedule, and design changes with internal teams.
Manufacturing and Troubleshooting Support
* Work closely with production, fabrication, assembly, electrical, and installation teams. * Provide practical engineering support during fabrication and assembly. * Visit the shop floor regularly to review designs, verify fit and function, and resolve manufacturing issues. * Troubleshoot mechanical problems during production, testing, installation, startup, and commissioning. * Review feedback from completed projects and recommend design or process improvements. * Develop jigs, fixtures, tools, or other manufacturing solutions when required.
Standardization and Continuous Improvement
* Contribute to the standardization of mechanical designs, components, drawings, calculations, and engineering practices. * Support Engineering Change Request and Engineering Change Order processes. * Help improve product reliability, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and installation effectiveness. * Document lessons learned and share technical knowledge with other engineers and designers. * Provide technical guidance to junior team members when appropriate.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. * At least five years of relevant mechanical design experience; candidates with approximately 7–10 years of experience are preferred. * Demonstrated experience designing custom machinery, industrial equipment, conveyors, material\-handling equipment, refrigeration equipment, or similar systems. * Strong hands\-on proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD. * Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings, assemblies, and BOM. * Good understanding of weldments, sheet metal, machining, fabrication, mechanical components, and manufacturing processes. * Experience with mechanical calculations, equipment sizing, component selection, and design verification. * Experience with cost estimation, labour\-hour estimation, or manufacturing planning is an asset. * Familiarity with FEA, thermodynamics, refrigeration systems, or food\-processing equipment is an asset. * P.Eng. designation or eligibility for registration in British Columbia is an asset but not required. * Strong troubleshooting, communication, organization, and problem\-solving skills. * Comfortable working in an office and manufacturing environment. * Able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with engineering, production, sales, and project teams.

Pay: $90,000\.00\-$110,000\.00 per year
