ABOUT THE ROLE

We are hiring a Junior Fullstack Developer at the start of their career to join one of our service delivery teams. This is a fullstack role — frontend and backend, database through to interface — and it is real client work from day one, carried out with guidance, mentoring, and code review around you while you grow into full ownership. You will sit in a small team with a Tech Project Lead and a QA. Your lead scopes the work, reviews your code, and signs it off before it merges, so you get close feedback on everything you write. Day to day the work spans planned project delivery and the support stream, and you will get exposure to both. We are not looking for experience. We are looking for someone who genuinely knows their fundamentals, thinks their way through a problem rather than guessing at it, and is honestly keen to learn. Our service teams work fullstack across a range of stacks and client codebases, so we hire for fundamentals over frameworks — we do not expect prior experience in any specific language, CMS, or framework. We expect core programming concepts strong enough to pick up whatever the project in front of you is built in, on either side of the stack. If you have built things on your own — personal projects, college projects, freelance work, open-source contributions — we want to hear about them. What you have built and can explain matters far more to us than what is written on a certificate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement the features, changes, and stories your Tech Project Lead assigns you, against the agreed acceptance criteria, and finish what you pick up. Investigate and fix issues properly — reproduce, find the root cause, fix, and verify your own work before calling it done, with support from your lead where you need it.
  • Work on the support stream alongside project work: production bugs, client change requests, and onboarding tasks. Raise clean pull requests with your own review applied first, and act on your lead's review feedback promptly.
  • Write clean, readable code and learn secure coding as a habit from day one — no secrets in source control, review and scan findings acted on promptly.
  • Hand work over to QA properly — get a working build in front of them without delay, and support retesting so defects close quickly. Implement UI to match the agreed design, and clarify handover and interaction details with the designer rather than guessing. Keep your work visible — boards current, progress updated daily, and blockers or anything you are unsure about raised early rather than late.
  • Keep documentation current alongside your code — API notes, READMEs, and integration notes another developer or QA can pick up without chasing you. Communicate clearly and professionally in client-facing situations, with your lead alongside you while you learn how we work with clients.
  • Learn the codebases and the client products actively: ask questions, read existing code, and build up your own understanding instead of waiting to be told.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Solid core programming fundamentals — data structures, logic and problem solving, object-oriented concepts, and a clear understanding of how a web request works end to end (HTTP, APIs, client vs server).
  • Fullstack working knowledge — at least one backend language and at least one frontend framework (e.g., PHP, Node.js, Python, C#, Java on the backend; React, Angular, Vue on the frontend) — through study, coursework, internship, or personal projects.
  • Understanding of databases and SQL — writing queries, reading a schema, and understanding relationships between tables. Comfortable with HTML and CSS, and able to turn a design into a working, responsive interface.
  • At least one project you have built yourself end to end, frontend and backend, that you can walk us through in detail — what it does, why you designed it that way, what broke, and how you fixed it. Basic awareness of web security risks and why secure coding matters, with the willingness to learn our security standards properly.
  • Familiarity with Git — branches, commits, and pull requests. Clear communication in English, written and spoken — able to explain a problem, ask a good question, and write an update someone else can act on.
  • Genuine willingness to learn whatever stack the project needs, rather than pushing for the stack you already know.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (or equivalent demonstrable self-taught ability).

ADDED ADVANTAGE

  • Hands-on AI-assisted ("vibe") coding experience — using AI tools for development, debugging, code comprehension, and test generation, with the judgement to check what they produce rather than trusting it blindly.
  • Any exposure to building AI-powered features — assistants, recommendations, data analysis, or automation with models such as Claude or Gemini. Any exposure to CMS or e-commerce platforms (e.g., WordPress, Magento) or to working in an existing codebase you did not write.
  • Internship, training programme, or freelance experience in web development.
  • Open-source contributions, a public GitHub profile, a portfolio site, or a technical blog. Awareness of Agile, Kanban, or Scrum ways of working. Relevant certifications or completed online specialisations
