We are hiring an AI Governance & Program Lead for a Washington, DC–based engagement supporting a large government-adjacent organization as it establishes how to adopt artificial intelligence responsibly. This is a full-time, hybrid role beginning in October 2026.
The AI Governance & Program Lead will conduct an AI governance and readiness assessment, author the organization's AI governance framework and controls, build a three-year AI implementation roadmap, and present recommendations to executive leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct a current-state AI governance and readiness assessment through document review and stakeholder interviews.
- Assess readiness against the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, NIST RMF, and federal AI guidance (OMB M-25-21).
- Author the AI governance framework: approval workflows, controls, escalation procedures, and executive and board reporting.
- Develop a three-year AI implementation roadmap and a pilot recommendation.
- Manage the program using structured (PMBOK-aligned) status reporting and deliverable management.
Required Qualifications:
- Six or more years of experience in IT governance, risk and compliance (GRC), or federal program management.
- Demonstrated experience authoring governance assessments, audit reports, or policies.
- Working knowledge of the NIST Risk Management Framework, NIST AI Risk Management Framework, or ISO/IEC 42001.
- Located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
- Authorized to work in the United States and able to pass a standard commercial background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with a federal agency or a federally overseen organization.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
- Experience with an enterprise AI or Microsoft Copilot rollout.
- Veteran or former federal program manager.
Pay: $145,000.00 - $195,000.00 per year
