Arcessio | Oakland, CA | Full-time | Onsite at least four days per week

Arcessio is building the AI decision and execution layer for manufacturing. We help companies understand mechanical parts and assemblies, evaluate how they can be manufactured, and find ways to improve cost, lead time, and design. Our technology brings together 3D geometry, 2D engineering drawings, manufacturing knowledge, and AI.

The problem

The shape of a part and its engineering requirements often live in separate places: a 3D model in one file and tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and surface finish callouts on a 2D drawing in another. Connecting the two, then reasoning about assembly context, is what turns a CAD file into a useful manufacturing recommendation. That requires difficult geometric and visual reasoning, and it is the core of what we build.

The role

You will take technical ownership of Arcessio’s geometry and vision systems as a hands-on principal individual contributor.

You will take problems from technical formulation through algorithm design, model development, evaluation, deployment, and ongoing improvement. You will select and combine computational geometry, numerical methods, optimization, classical vision, machine learning, and vision-language models based on what the problem needs.

You will work closely with engineering, product, and manufacturing experts to decide which problems matter most.

What you will work on

  • Linking tolerance and surface finish callouts in drawings to the corresponding faces or features in 3D models.

  • Assessing tool accessibility and setup complexity for machining feasibility and cost.

  • Analyzing wall thickness, draft angles, and undercuts for molding feasibility.

  • Identifying parts suited to sheet metal manufacturing.

  • Finding part consolidation and cost reduction opportunities across assemblies.

Over time, the role may expand into validated geometry modification, reconstruction of 3D models from drawings, and generative design.

What you inherit

You are Arcessio’s first dedicated hire for this role, building on technology developed at CASTOR.

You will take ownership of a C++ foundation with several years of development behind it, covering CAD and mesh analysis, manufacturing feature recognition, CNC feasibility, assembly clustering, collision detection, and OCR-based drawing analysis. It uses commercial libraries including Polygonica and HOOPS and combines established capabilities with exploratory prototypes.

You will extend this foundation while developing and integrating new vision and multimodal models.

What we’re looking for

  • Exceptional applied computational geometry: Practical work with meshes, CAD/B-reps, topology, and robust geometric algorithms, using libraries and kernels to solve difficult problems and ship reliable software. You do not need to have built a CAD kernel from scratch.

  • Hands-on model development: You have personally trained or fine-tuned vision or geometric learning models, evaluated them, and taken them into production. Integrating vision APIs alone is insufficient.

  • Strong production engineering: Strong C++ and Python skills, comfort inheriting complex code, and end-to-end ownership, including testing, numerical robustness, performance optimization, and maintenance.

  • Technical adaptability: The ability to learn unfamiliar domains, work through ambiguous problems, and collaborate with manufacturing experts.

If you are vision-first with substantial geometry algorithm experience, especially in engineering drawing understanding or linking 2D drawings to 3D models, we want to hear from you too.

Experience with manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability (DFM), or GD&T is highly valued. Candidates without this background should demonstrate the ability to learn technical domains quickly and work closely with manufacturing experts.

A PhD is not required. We value demonstrated technical depth, personal contribution, and delivery.

What we offer

  • Base salary: $220,000–$280,000 annually.

  • Bonus: 15% annual target performance bonus.

  • Equity: Stock options.

  • Location: Oakland, CA, with at least four days per week onsite.
