Data Scientist

Atnis Pty Ltd | Sydney NSW 2000

About Atnis

Atnis Pty Ltd is a Sydney-based technology consultancy delivering cybersecurity, cloud and network infrastructure solutions to enterprise clients across Australia. We are building an AI capability that strengthens how we deliver these services, and we are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to lead that work while also supporting our clients on our core engagements. The position commences in December 2026.

The Role

This is an AI-centric role with two connected parts. The first is to design, build and run artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions that improve Atnis’s service delivery and the offerings we bring to clients. The second is to support client engagements within our core scope of cybersecurity, cloud and network infrastructure, applying data science to the data those engagements produce. You will work across the full analytics lifecycle, from framing the problem and preparing data through to building, validating, deploying and monitoring models in production, and explaining the results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

AI and machine learning

· Design, build and deploy large language model solutions, including retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, embedding and vector search components, and agent-based workflows, with appropriate validation and human oversight.

· Identify opportunities to apply AI to Atnis’s service delivery, such as automating analysis, triage and reporting, and translate them into working solutions.

· Design, train and evaluate statistical and machine learning models, including classification, forecasting and anomaly detection, and select techniques suited to the problem and the data.

· Establish model and LLM evaluation frameworks, including accuracy testing, drift detection and ongoing performance monitoring, and refine solutions as data and requirements change.

· Build and maintain production-grade data and model pipelines on cloud data platforms such as Azure and Databricks, with version control and automated build and deployment (CI/CD).

Client engagement support

· Work with delivery teams and client stakeholders on cybersecurity, cloud and network engagements to define problems and translate them into testable hypotheses and measurable objectives.

· Collect, clean, integrate and transform structured and unstructured data from security, network and cloud sources using SQL and Python, and analyse it to produce insights and recommendations for clients.

· Create dashboards and visualisations, and prepare clear reports and presentations that communicate findings, assumptions and limitations to client and internal stakeholders.

· Apply sound data governance, privacy and security practices to all data handled, consistent with client and regulatory requirements.

· Document methods, code and results, and contribute to the team’s analytical standards and knowledge sharing.

Skills and Experience

· A degree in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering or a related quantitative discipline (a postgraduate qualification is advantageous), or equivalent demonstrated experience.

· At least two years of commercial experience delivering data science or machine learning solutions into production.

· Demonstrated experience building large language model solutions, including retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings and agent-based workflows, and evaluating model output.

· Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience using machine learning and deep learning libraries.

· Hands-on experience with a cloud data platform such as Azure and Databricks, including building data pipelines and deploying models.

· Experience presenting analytical results and recommendations to non-technical audiences, including clients.

· Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and within a team.

Desirable

· Experience with MLOps practices, CI/CD tooling and workflow orchestration.

· Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI.

· Exposure to cybersecurity, network or cloud infrastructure data.

Remuneration and Conditions

The salary range for this position is $147,000 to $150,000 per annum plus superannuation, with the final figure determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. The position is full-time at 38 hours per week and is based in Sydney, NSW, with an anticipated start date in December 2026.

Pay: $147,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
