Australia is regularly affected by severe weather events. These events are growing in frequency and severity, leading to increased impacts on the economy, infrastructure, property, and wellbeing.

To address this, the Bureau of Meteorology has undertaken significant steps to deliver customer focussed, integrated and resilient national operations through the Community Services Group (CSG).

CSG is comprised of Environmental Prediction Services (EPS), Decision Support Services (DSS) and National Production Services (NPS) which are configured to enable scalable, national and resilient services. The EPS program is responsible for the national monitoring, analysis and reporting of hazardous conditions. During severe weather, EPS will be deployed into operations to deliver specialised, hazard\-based advice, warning and outlook services.

Operating with a national capability, EPS has four predictive service units: Severe Weather, Marine and Antarctic, Water, and Climate, each of which play a key role in the value chain of the Bureau's capability to deliver a suite of valuable products and services to the Australian community.

The Severe Weather Team is responsible for the daily monitoring of Thunderstorms, Severe Weather and Heavy Rainfall, Tropical Cyclone, and Fire, Heatwave \& Air Quality. The team provides advice on conditions which are hazardous or may have a significant impact. The team functions as a single capability across three locations, Perth, Brisbane, and Melbourne, with the Thunderstorm, Severe Weather and Heavy Rainfall team members located in Melbourne and Brisbane.

The Team Lead – Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall reports to the Manager \- Severe Weather. The successful candidate will oversee the delivery and development of consistently high\-quality severe weather products and services, and during severe weather events will be expected to undertake extended working hours as directed. Some travel may be required as part of the role. Flexible working arrangements are possible, but working from the office is necessary, particularly during periods of severe weather.

The role is a leadership position within Environmental Prediction Services, and as such takes a role in guiding the development and direction of the program, outside of the direct responsibility of the position. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to develop and grow the Bureau’s services in EPS.

To be successful in this role, you will have an excellent understanding of operational severe weather forecasting, and of the overall total warning system. The role will require you to lead operational delivery and improvement of severe weather services, maintain a high\-performance culture, and work alongside other leaders across the Bureau to develop and deliver reliable, high quality, customer focussed services.

You will also have a drive and curiosity to evolve the Bureau's severe weather services and engage across the service value chain to increase value and impact. You will be able to demonstrate a proven commitment to excellence in collaboration, negotiation and building partnerships and relationships with customers and stakeholders.
