About the Role
Avenrix Services is hiring a Backend Engineer to work on an active enterprise client project involving backend services, data processing, search, and AI-assisted workflows.
The role is primarily focused on Node.js/TypeScript development, PostgreSQL, APIs, data synchronization, production troubleshooting, and reliability.
You’ll work with an existing production system and collaborate with engineers across backend, data, search, and AI-related areas.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
- Build and maintain REST APIs and backend integrations
- Work with PostgreSQL and SQL
- Debug database queries and backend performance issues
- Support ETL, data pipelines, and synchronization between systems
- Investigate data inconsistencies, failed jobs, and production issues
- Help improve application reliability and data consistency
- Work with AWS-based services and environments
- Write automated tests and participate in code reviews
- Use logs, metrics, and tracing to troubleshoot issues
- Collaborate with engineers working on search, data, and AI-related functionality
- Participate in technical meetings and provide clear updates on your work, blockers, and technical decisions
Required Skills
- 2+ years of professional software development experience or equivalent strong practical experience
- Good experience with JavaScript / TypeScript
- Backend development experience with Node.js
- Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Experience with PostgreSQL or a similar database
- Experience developing or integrating REST APIs
- Familiarity with Git and standard development workflows
- Good debugging and problem-solving skills
- Ability to understand and work within an existing codebase
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks
- Good written and spoken English for technical communication
- Reliable, receptive to feedback, and willing to learn unfamiliar technologies
Preferred Skills
Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:
- AWS
- ETL or data pipelines
- Kafka or other event/messaging systems
- OpenTelemetry
- Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar observability tools
- OpenSearch / Elasticsearch
- Docker
- Python
- GitHub Actions or other CI/CD tools
- Distributed systems
- RAG / LLM applications
- AI or data-science workflows
AI-Assisted Development
Experience using tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or similar AI coding tools is welcome.
Candidates should still be able to understand, test, debug, and clearly explain the code they submit.
