JOB SUMMARY

The Family Coach provides direct one-to-one support to families to help build family capacity and resilience. The Family Coach assists parents in developing new parenting skills, supports healthy child development, and connects families with helpful ongoing resources and services. JOB DESCRIPTION The Family Coach works directly with families to identify their needs, strengthen parenting skills, support healthy child development, and promote overall family stability. The position completes intake assessments, develops individualized case plans, provides parenting and child development support, coordinates referrals, and follows up with families to ensure appropriate supports are in place. The Family Coach works collaboratively with the Prevention Program Manager, community partners, other prevention programs, and stakeholders to ensure children, youth, and families receive comprehensive and wholistic services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Family Support

  • Build collaborative relationships with families.
  • Complete intake assessments and identify family needs.
  • Provide parenting and child development support.
  • Provide referrals and follow-up services to ensure families receive appropriate support.

Parenting and Child Development Support

  • Maintain a strong understanding of current and compassionate child-raising techniques.
  • Clearly communicate parenting and child development information to parents and caregivers.

Case Planning

  • Develop and implement personalized case plans with each family.
  • Ensure case plans support the safety and well-being of children and the overall stability of the family unit.

Resource Management

  • Work with the Program Manager to determine the resources families require.
  • Assist with obtaining and distributing basic needs of resources, including diapers, food, clothing, and other necessary items.

Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families and community partners.
  • Support the development of meaningful activities and connections within the community.
  • Help ensure families receive the support and services identified through the intake and assessment process.

Collaboration

  • Coordinate with other prevention programs to provide comprehensive and wholistic support and services for children, youth, and families. Communication
  • Maintain ongoing communication with stakeholders to ensure families receive appropriate care and support.
  • Communicate systemic issues to leadership to assist in developing community-wide solutions to common concerns.

Compliance

  • Ensure the program complies with relevant regulations, policies, and best practices.

Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Maintain complete and accurate records of interactions with families.
  • Participate in compiling and preparing required reports.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Human Services, Nonprofit Management, or a related field is helpful.
  • Equivalent combinations of work experience and life experience will be considered.
  • Experience working in a social work-type role is beneficial, preferably within a First Nations setting.

  • Ability to apply trauma-sensitive principles in all interactions.
  • Ability to provide immediate support and solutions during crisis situations.
  • Demonstrate empathy and understanding.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective case plans tailored to each family.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently and in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and consistently meet deadlines, whether on-site or off-site.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Clear Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, required upon commencement of employment.
  • Intervention Record Check required upon commencement of employment.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence required.
  • Reliable vehicle required.
  • Clear Driver’s Abstract required.
  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s Licence or the ability to obtain a Class 4 Driver’s Licence.
