The Role

As a Product Designer II, you will be an integral part of a team directly connected to our customers, partnering with Product Managers and Engineers to design intuitive, engaging software experiences across the Drilling portfolio and Seequent product suite. You will contribute from discovery and research through prototyping, validation, and implementation, balancing user needs with business, accessibility, security, and regulatory requirements.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Build a proficient understanding of customer needs and user behaviours across the Drilling portfolio and Seequent product suite.

  • Partner with Product Managers to conduct generative research, develop models of user behaviour, and translate research and product usage data into design improvements.

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, subject matter experts, and Engineers to test design concepts with users and incorporate feedback into evolving solutions.

  • Design user experiences for desktop and cloud environments, selecting appropriate tools, methods, and design patterns from concept through prototype.

  • Evaluate design alternatives against usability, accessibility, performance, security, brand, and applicable legislative or regulatory requirements.

  • Create polished visual and interaction designs, wireframes, and mock-ups using Figma, applying strong colour, typography, layout, and user-flow principles.

  • Plan and facilitate user research activities, collect and analyse data, and support the synthesis of insights, reports, and presentations.

  • Assess the usability and accessibility of existing, proposed, and competitor experiences to establish benchmarks and recommend actions.

  • Build high-trust, cross-functional relationships with Product Management, Engineering, Developers, Sales, Customer Experience, Marketing, and peers in Product Design.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Product Design or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience working in a Product Design team within a commercial software product company.

  • Proficient knowledge of product customers and users, with experience supporting customer and user interactions as part of a Product Design team.

  • Proficient knowledge of the segments and industries served by the product, with developing knowledge of relevant software products and domains.

  • Strong capability with product design methods, tools, applications, and processes, including expertise in Figma.

  • Experience performing varied, sometimes complex and non-routine design work using a methodical approach, sound judgement, and creative problem-solving.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with and influence colleagues, users, customers, suppliers, and partners.

  • The ability to work under general direction, plan and monitor your own work within deadlines, use discretion on complex issues, and escalate when appropriate.

  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development, with appropriate working knowledge of security, privacy, and ethics in non-routine work.
