UX/UI Designer, Boone
Full-time | Hybrid, Norwich Research Park | £28,000 to £35,000 | Norwich-based candidates only
About Boone
Boone is a UK personalised nutrition app. Users log food by photo, text, barcode or receipt and get real-time analysis of macros, 29 micronutrients and how processed their food is, with optional DNA insights layered on top. We believe diets should be individual, real food should come first, and good nutrition shouldn't depend on how much you earn. We will never sell food, supplements or user data.
We're a small founding team, live in the UK and expanding internationally.
The role
Boone has three surfaces that need to work as one: our website, our App Store and Google Play listings, and the app itself. As our first designer, you'll own how all three look, feel and connect together to build a seemless experiance.
Your focus is the full user journey, from someone landing on our website through to downloading the app, logging their first meal and becoming a paying subscriber. Every design decision should move someone to the next step. You'll work directly with the founders across product, marketing and development, with real ownership from day one.
What you'll work on
- Website: design and improve core pages (homepage, app feature pages, food database, DNA test, sports partnerships) to turn visitors into app downloads.
- App store presence: screenshots, preview videos and listing visuals that match the website and app, and convince people to install.
- App: onboarding, paywall, food logging, dashboard and insights screens, helping new users get value quickly and come back daily.
- Design system: build and maintain one consistent system across all three surfaces.
- Testing and iteration: spot where users drop off, design changes, and check the results in the data.
- User research: talk to and test with our users (gym-goers, athletes and busy parents) and turn what you learn into design changes.
What success looks like
We measure design by behaviour. You'll share responsibility for improving:
- Website visits to app downloads
- Store listing views to installs
- Installs to completed onboarding
- Onboarding to first food log
- Free trial to Premium subscription
- Take-up of the DNA test and club or gym pricing
Your first 90 days
- Audit the website, store listings and app as one journey and map where it breaks
- Bring all three surfaces into a single design system
- Ship your first improvements to each surface and measure the impact
What we're looking for
- A portfolio showing web and mobile app design (personal, freelance or concept projects count)
- Strong Figma skills
- An understanding of UX fundamentals: user flows, information architecture and usability
- Awareness of accessibility standards
- Curiosity about data and willingness to learn tools like GA4
- Comfort working independently, taking feedback and moving quickly
Nice to have
- Experience with onboarding, paywalls or subscription apps
- Basic HTML and CSS
- App store optimisation or motion design skills
- Interest in nutrition, fitness or health tech
Why join
You'll be our first designer, shaping a product used by real people from an early stage. Your work will show up in the numbers within weeks, and you'll grow with the company as the team expands.
This role is only open to candidates living in or within commuting distance of Norwich. We are unable to consider applications from outside the area or offer relocation support.
