Building Regulations Principal Designer

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) to join our team in London.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, managing and monitoring design work to support compliance with the Building Regulations. You will work closely with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, building control bodies and other project stakeholders to ensure that regulatory requirements are properly considered and coordinated throughout the design and construction process.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Building Regulations Principal Designer for assigned projects.
- Plan, manage and monitor design activities throughout the project.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams to ensure Building Regulations compliance.
- Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, calculations and technical information.
- Identify potential Building Regulations compliance issues and coordinate appropriate solutions.
- Ensure designers cooperate and coordinate their work effectively.
- Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, contractors and Building Control.
- Coordinate responses to Building Control comments and requests for information.
- Review design changes and assess their impact on Building Regulations compliance.
- Maintain appropriate records and evidence relating to regulatory compliance.
- Support clients in understanding and fulfilling their Building Regulations duties.
- Liaise with the Principal Contractor and share relevant design and compliance information.
- Assist with building control submissions and resolution of technical issues.
- Ensure relevant compliance information is communicated to project stakeholders.
- Keep up to date with Building Regulations, Approved Documents and building safety legislation.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a Building Regulations Principal Designer or in a similar technical/design compliance role.
- Strong knowledge of the Building Regulations 2010 and Approved Documents.
- Good understanding of the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations dutyholder requirements.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
- Experience working with Building Control bodies.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to compliance.
- Appropriate competence, knowledge, skills and experience to undertake the BRPD role.
Qualifications & Professional Membership
A relevant qualification or professional background in one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- Building Surveying
- Architecture
- Architectural Technology
- Structural or Civil Engineering
- Construction Management
- Building Control
- Construction or Property
Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CIOB, CABE, ARB or an appropriate engineering institution would be desirable.
Pay: £70,000.00 per year
