POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly competent and technically driven Pre-Sales Engineer to join our Infrastructure Solutions team.
This position is suited to an experienced professional capable of designing, costing, documenting, and presenting complex infrastructure solutions across telecommunications, fibre optic networks, utility metering systems, grid-tie solar infrastructure, and integrated security technologies.
The successful candidate will work closely with developers, consulting engineers, construction teams, project managers, and executive stakeholders from project feasibility stage through to implementation handover.
Applicants must be capable of independently producing professional designs, technical documentation, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), feasibility assessments, and client presentations with minimal supervision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fibre Infrastructure Design
- Develop detailed CAD-based fibre network designs for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
- Produce fibre route layouts, sleeve reticulation drawings, splice diagrams, OLT-to-end-user connectivity diagrams, and network schematics.
- Perform feasibility studies and site assessments.
- Prepare detailed BOQs and project costing.
- Design server room layouts, rack elevations, cabinet layouts, patching schedules, and communication infrastructure.
- Prepare as-built documentation and project handover packs.
- Liaise with municipalities regarding wayleave requirements and compliance standards.
- Attend technical design meetings with consulting engineers, developers, and project teams.
Metering Infrastructure
- Design communication infrastructure for electrical metering systems.
- Produce detailed network and communication diagrams.
- Interpret electrical Single Line Diagrams (SLDs).
- Develop metering communication layouts incorporating Fibre, Ethernet, LTE, RS-485 and associated infrastructure.
- Generate accurate BOQs and implementation documentation.
Grid-Tie Solar Infrastructure
- Design communication and sleeve infrastructure for renewable energy projects.
- Produce solar layouts using CAD and Helioscope software.
- Develop communication reticulation designs for monitoring and control systems.
- Prepare technical documentation and BOQs.
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic DC reticulation principles and solar communication architectures.
Security Infrastructure Design
- Design integrated perimeter security systems.
- Produce layouts for CCTV, thermal cameras, perimeter detection systems, electric fencing, access control systems, guardhouse infrastructure, and communication networks.
- Develop detailed sectional drawings and infrastructure routing plans.
- Design backup power infrastructure and inverter room layouts.
- Produce detailed BOQs and costing documentation.
- Demonstrate an understanding of CCTV detection principles, coverage planning, and operational limitations.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants MUST demonstrate practical experience in the following areas:
- Advanced AutoCAD proficiency.
- Telecommunications and fibre optic infrastructure design.
- Utility metering communication systems.
- Grid-tie solar communication infrastructure.
- Security technology infrastructure design.
- BOQ generation and project costing.
- Technical proposal preparation.
- Interpretation of civil engineering drawings.
- Interpretation of electrical engineering drawings.
- Network infrastructure design.
- Professional client engagement and presentation skills.
ADVANTAGEOUS EXPERIENCE
The following will be highly advantageous:
- Helioscope design experience.
- Utility metering systems and AMI infrastructure.
- Fibre network fault-finding experience.
- Estate and mixed-use development infrastructure design.
- CCTV and perimeter security system design.
- Experience working with consulting engineers and property developers.
- Understanding of municipal wayleave processes.
- Understanding of SANS and industry design standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 years relevant infrastructure design experience.
- Proven experience producing detailed CAD designs independently.
- Proven experience generating BOQs and project costing.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Willingness to attend site visits, design meetings, and project workshops.
