CD Facility Services is seeking an experienced Self-Performing Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our Self-Performing Division.
This position is responsible for the performance of both our field operations and the dispatch/office team supporting them. We're looking for someone who knows how to manage people, understands field-service operations, pays attention to the numbers, and can recognize when something isn't working before it becomes a bigger problem.
This is a hands-on operations management role. You'll work closely with field leadership, dispatch, ownership, and our Vendor Division Manager to keep work moving, develop the team, improve performance, and ensure the division is operating efficiently and profitably.
What You'll Do
· Manage the day-to-day operations and performance of the Self-Performing Division.
· Lead and develop the Senior Field Supervisor and SP dispatch/office support team.
· Ensure field supervisors are effectively managing, coaching, and developing their technicians.
· Monitor work-order performance from scheduling through completion and readiness for billing.
· Track and improve completion times, past-due work, aging, stalled work orders, return trips, technician utilization, and other operational KPIs.
· Monitor revenue, margins, labor costs, overtime, material costs, productivity, average invoice value, and overall divisional profitability.
· Identify performance trends and determine what is driving the results, not simply report the numbers.
· Evaluate staffing and field coverage by workload, geography, state, and trade.
· Identify when additional staffing is needed and develop supported recommendations based on workload, capacity, and financial data.
· Recruit, interview, hire, coach, develop, and manage employees within approved staffing levels.
· Address performance issues and make termination decisions when necessary.
· Review quality issues, callbacks, client concerns, and recurring service failures to identify and correct root causes.
· Communicate directly with clients regarding routine operational matters and service issues.
· Review Self-Performing proposals and pricing for appropriate labor, materials, operational feasibility, and expected profitability.
· Oversee materials, inventory, and supply needs while maintaining appropriate cost controls.
· Make routine operational and workflow improvements as needed.
· Identify opportunities to strengthen training, safety practices, and field standards.
· Evaluate opportunities to expand Self-Performing coverage or capabilities when workload and financial performance support the need.
· Work collaboratively with the Vendor Division Manager on capacity, coverage, client needs, and determining the best operational solution for the company and client.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who knows how to run an operation and develop the people within it.
The right person doesn't need ownership to discover every problem for them. They pay attention to what is happening, use data and operational knowledge to understand why it's happening, develop a solution, and follow through to determine whether it worked.
You'll likely be successful in this role if you:
· Are comfortable leading both field and office-based operational teams.
· Hold people accountable while still being approachable and collaborative.
· Know how to develop supervisors instead of becoming the answer to every problem yourself.
· Understand how labor, productivity, materials, scheduling, and operational decisions affect profitability.
· Can look at KPIs and recognize where something deserves a deeper look.
· Are comfortable making day-to-day operational decisions.
· Know when a decision requires broader collaboration or approval.
· Can balance immediate operational needs with longer-term staffing and capacity planning.
· Follow through consistently.
· Look for practical ways to make an operation better, stronger, and more efficient.
Minimum Qualifications
· Minimum 5 years of management experience in field-service operations.
· Experience within the facilities maintenance, repair, construction, trades, or related service industry.
· Demonstrated experience managing field employees and/or field supervisors.
· Experience managing or working closely with dispatch, scheduling, or operational support functions.
· Experience with hiring, coaching, performance management, and employee accountability.
· Ability to use operational and financial KPIs to evaluate performance and make decisions.
· Understanding of labor utilization, job costs, margins, and other factors affecting operational profitability.
· Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Comfortable working with operational systems, spreadsheets, dashboards, and performance reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in business, operations management, construction management, or a related field. Preferred, not required. Relevant experience is highly valued.
· Experience managing geographically dispersed or multi-state field-service operations.
· Experience within commercial facilities services, including handyman/general repair, electrical, plumbing, locksmith, glass, or related trades.
· Experience managing both field leadership and dispatch/office support teams.
· Experience expanding service territories, technician coverage, or service capabilities.
· Inventory and material-management experience.
· Demonstrated history of improving operational KPIs, profitability, service levels, or team performance.
