Are you a creative communicator who enjoys working with people and wants to be part of something meaningful? The Champaign Aviation Museum is looking for an enthusiastic and organized Visitor Services & Marketing Manager to join our team!

This is a unique opportunity to combine marketing, visitor engagement, educational programming, special events, and membership support while working alongside a dedicated team of staff and volunteers at a working aviation museum.

Our Museum is more than a place to look at historic aircraft. We honor Veterans and their families, preserve aviation history, educate the public, and provide hands-on opportunities for visitors to connect with the past. The person in this position will play an important role in helping us share that mission with our community and visitors from across the country.

About the Position

The Visitor Services & Marketing Manager is a hands-on, public-facing position working closely with the Deputy Director, Museum visitors, and volunteers.

The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, communicates well, stays organized, and is excited to contribute to a small non-profit where everyone works together to get the job done.

What You'll Do

Marketing & Communications

· Create and coordinate engaging print and digital marketing materials that promote the Museum, its programs, events, and mission.

· Develop and maintain engaging social media and Museum website content.

· Assist with the development and distribution of promotional materials and communications.

· Help ensure that the Museum's public-facing communications are accurate, timely, professional, and consistent with its mission and brand.

· Assist with marketing and promotional efforts for the Museum's Annual Gala and other special events.

Visitor Services

· Serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable point of contact for Museum visitors.

· Respond to general visitor inquiries by phone, email, and other communication channels.

· Collect and maintain visitor data and other information that helps the Museum understand its audience and improve visitor experiences.

· Assist visitors with questions regarding Museum programs, events, tours, and other offerings.

· Work collaboratively with Museum volunteers to ensure visitors receive a friendly, engaging, and memorable experience.

Tours & Educational Programs

· Coordinate docent-led group tours, including scheduling and communication with tour groups and Museum volunteers.

· Assist with planning and managing educational programs and special events.

· Coordinate logistics and promotion for the Museum's monthly Speaker Series.

· Support other educational activities and programs as needed.

Membership & Museum Support

· Assist the Deputy Director with administration and promotion of the Museum's membership program.

· Help communicate membership benefits, opportunities, and events to current and prospective members.

· Provide general administrative and organizational support to the Deputy Director.

· Work cooperatively with Museum volunteers and staff on projects and activities that support the Museum's overall mission.

What We're Looking For

Required:

· Experience in one or all of the following: museum work, education, marketing/promotions, communications, visitor services, or a related field.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

· Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member.

· Proficiency with common computer applications and digital communication tools.

· A positive, professional, and enthusiastic approach to working with visitors and volunteers.

· Willingness to learn, take initiative, and pitch in wherever needed.

Preferred:

· Experience creating print and digital marketing materials.

· Experience managing organizational or business social media and websites.

· Experience coordinating educational programs, tours, or special events.

· Experience working with volunteers.

· Familiarity with aviation history, military history, museums, or non-profit organizations.

Schedule & Compensation

· Part-time: approximately 20 hours per week

· Flexible scheduling Tuesday–Friday during normal working hours. Occasional Saturdays.

· Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for special events, educational programs, or Museum activities.

· $21–$24 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Work Environment

The position involves regular interaction with visitors, volunteers, and Museum activities throughout the building and at public events. Some events and/or meetings may require travel to another location (such as driving).

The Champaign Aviation Museum operates in an active aircraft hangar environment, where aircraft restoration and maintenance activities are taking place. The environment may at times include elevated noise levels, uneven walking surfaces, trip hazards, sharp aircraft or equipment edges, tools and equipment, and oil or other maintenance-related materials. Awareness of surroundings are expected at all times.

Physical expectations:

· Walking throughout the Museum and at public events. At times you will be in areas without being able to sit down (such as aircraft ramps).

· Navigating an active hangar environment safely.

· Occasionally lift or move lightweight materials and supplies

· Adhering to Museum safety procedures and use appropriate caution around aircraft restoration and maintenance activities.

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16.0 – 24.0 per week
