**Position Description – Graduate Landscape Architect**

**Purpose**

The Graduate Landscape Architect role will be responsible for project management,

managing consultants, design development, consultation, documentation and contract

administration for Council’s parks and open spaces.

The primary objective of this position is to contribute to the delivery of open space and

recreation projects. This role requires understanding and knowledge in project planning and

project management with the key focus on consultation, liaison and negotiation with the

community, customers, contractors, suppliers and staff across the organisation to ensure

coordinated and collaborative outcomes.

Strong communication skills and an ability to maintain solid relationships with internal and

external stakeholders will be vital to this role.

best service to our community and to improve residents’ quality life; continuously, smartly

and efficiently in the scope of your daily work.

**Key Deliverables**

* Working in conjunction with the Open Space and Recreation Planning team to deliver

the open space works program. * Assist in ensuring that landscape projects are within budget requirements to meet

work area plans. * Utilising skills and abilities to contribute to projects across the organisation to deliver

on City of Marion business needs. * Contribute to the management of operational risk and implement risk management

processes within the business unit. **Person Specification**

Essential criteria

* Degree in Landscape Architecture together with 0\-5 years of relevant skills and

experience. * Commitment to working towards registration with Australian Institute of Landscape

Architects (AILA). * Understanding of project management skills from design to delivery including

working with multidisciplinary teams to achieve organisational goals. * Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe CS Suite (Indesign and Photoshop). * Ability to interpret, review and develop landscape design, design development and

construction documentation. * Ability to develop community consultation documentation and willingness to assist in

* Ability to assist in preparing and managing project management documentation and

reporting. * Ability to assist in achieving solutions to onsite issues and customer feedback through

planning and design. * Understanding of and willingness to learn about playground design, requirements,

trends and associated standards. * Knowledge of relevant Codes of Practice, Australian Standards and willingness to

learn about Service Authority Regulations. * Knowledge of Horticulture design and management principles. * Proficient communication skills both written and verbal and demonstrated capacity

to work constructively with others both internally and externally. * Ability to assist in managing consultants and contractors. * Ability to assist in managing budgets. * Excellent time management skills. * Ability to exercise initiative, judgement and be innovative. * Assist in preparing reports as required. * Assist in the resolution of complaints from the public and ensure customer

complaints, requests and correspondence is actioned in accordance with Council

standards. * Contribute to a continuous improvement focus and outlook to the Open Space and

Recreation Planning team to improve work practices. Desirable criteria

* Previous work experience as a Landscape Architect * Previous Horticultural qualification

**Standard conditions**

* Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance (will be arranged by the City of

Marion) * Satisfactory completion of applicable Medical Assessment (will be arranged by the

City of Marion) * Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,

with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa. * Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations

and apply “Think Safe Live Well” philosophy. * Embrace ethical and moral behavior and report any suspected instances of fraud

and/or corruption in accordance with Fraud and Corruption Management and the

**Other conditions specific to the role**

* Must hold a valid, full (unrestricted) driver's license in accordance with South

Australian requirements. * Some after\-hours work required (ie consultation events, workshops) * Attendance at Council meetings (after hours) may be required. * This is a prescribed position as defined by the City of Marion Safe Environments for

Children and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Therefore, incumbent must: o Promote and maintain a child safe environment and take relevant actions in

accordance with council's Safe Environments for Children and Vulnerable

Persons Policy and with legislative requirements under the Children and

Young People (Safety) Act 2017 and the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act

2016\.

o Satisfactorily complete a DHS Working with Children Check (to be renewed

every five years) and be willing to undertake Child Safe Training.
