About the Role We're a fast-moving, VC-backed insurtech startup building an AI-native platform that is transforming how insurance agencies sell, service, and support their customers. Our platform includes a real-time voice layer, an AI agent/skills system, omnichannel messaging, and deep integrations with insurance-industry systems — all built on a modern, production-grade backend. We're already trusted by a growing base of insurance agencies and shipping fast. We're looking for a Backend Engineer who takes full ownership of features — from design through deployment and production support — and is excited to work in an AI-native engineering culture where tools like Claude Code and Codex are part of the daily workflow. What You'll Do Build and ship features across the backend platform: campaign/workflow engine, integrations layer, and core APIs. Work directly with a multi-tenant PostgreSQL data model — schema design, migrations, and query performance optimization. Design and implement event-driven and queue-based workflows using Temporal as the workflow orchestration engine. Own features end-to-end: design, build, test, deploy, and support in production. Ship daily using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code / Codex) as a core part of your engineering workflow. Partner closely with the Head of Engineering on architecture decisions and code reviews. What We're Looking For Required: Strong proficiency in TypeScript / Node.js — comfortable building and maintaining production APIs and services. Solid experience with PostgreSQL , including multi-tenant schema design, migrations, and query optimization. Experience designing and building event-driven / asynchronous workflows using queue-based systems or workflow engines (e.g., Temporal or similar). Demonstrated ability to own features end-to-end, from design to production support. Familiarity with AI-native development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar coding assistants — used daily. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production monitoring / on-call readiness. Clear, async-friendly communicator, comfortable working across a distributed international team. Nice to Have: Experience with NestJS or another structured Node.js framework. AWS experience: RDS, ECS/EKS, Terraform (IaC). Experience building or operating LLM/agent systems in production (prompt engineering, agent orchestration, evals). Background in insurance, fintech, or another regulated/compliance-heavy vertical. Our Stack Backend: TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS (monorepo) Orchestration: Temporal (Temporal Cloud) Data: PostgreSQL on AWS RDS (multi-tenant, row-level security) Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform IaC AI: Anthropic + OpenAI models, prompt/agent orchestration, evals Frontend: React / Next.js Observability & Auth: Datadog, Clerk Tooling: Linear, GitHub, Claude Code + Codex Compensation & Benefits Salary: Up to $72,000 USD annually (range dependent on experience) Fully remote role — work from anywhere Early-stage equity opportunity Visa sponsorship is not available for this role Location This is a fully remote position. The team is distributed internationally, with members in LATAM, Ukraine, Portugal, and the US. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. Candidates must be able to collaborate effectively across time zones.
