About the Role
This Finance Engineer role sits at the heart of a fast-growing EdTech startup's finance operations, acting as a strategic partner to the Director of Finance & People. You'll be both a hands-on operator and a builder — running core financial processes while actively shaping a modern, automation-first finance function.
What You'll Do
-
Prepare decision briefs and drive cross-functional initiatives as a force multiplier for senior finance leadership.
-
Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, coordinating with external auditors across multiple jurisdictions.
-
Lead operational controlling, including budget planning, financial forecasting, and liquidity management.
-
Build and deliver monthly financial reporting and conduct data-driven analysis to support growth and investment decisions.
-
Identify and implement automation opportunities in finance workflows using AI tools, low-code platforms, and smart integrations.
-
Support financial modeling for growth and innovation projects, acting as a sparring partner to the management team.
-
Manage relationships with external tax, audit, and legal advisors across jurisdictions.
-
Serve as the connective tissue between Finance and functions such as Growth and Engineering.
-
Help build a digital finance backbone, including intelligent dashboards, predictive KPIs, and scalable ERP/treasury architecture.
What We're Looking For
-
1–3 years of finance experience, ideally from a Big 4 advisory firm or a high-growth startup environment.
-
Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
-
Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel proficiency.
-
Hands-on experience with FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, controlling, and liquidity management.
-
Solid knowledge of German accounting standards (HGB) and familiarity with IFRS.
-
Experience leveraging AI tools to automate or improve finance workflows.
-
Familiarity with BI tools or low-code platforms is a plus.
-
Fluent in both German and English (written and spoken) — required for accounting work and stakeholder communication.
-
Proactive, self-driven, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment.
-
Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
