About the Role
This is a hands-on, generalist engineering role at an early-stage AI consumer hardware startup, where you'll own the app experience end-to-end across iOS, Apple Watch, and Mac — plus shared backend surfaces that power them. You'll work directly alongside product leadership, making real product tradeoffs and shipping user-facing improvements quickly in a small, fast-moving team.
What You'll Do
-
Own app features end-to-end across iOS, watchOS, and Mac without a fully-specified backlog.
-
Ship user-facing improvements addressing real issues — watch tap-target reliability, cross-platform meeting detection, agent responsiveness.
-
Move fluidly between UX, UI, backend, and AI/ML depending on what each feature needs, making scope and design tradeoffs independently.
-
Integrate agent and LLM-based features (tool use, memory, retrieval) into the consumer app experience.
-
Collaborate with an ASR engineer on shared backend and pipeline surfaces.
-
Take features from design through ship through iteration, driven by real user feedback.
What We're Looking For
-
3+ years shipping consumer product features end-to-end across at least two platforms (mobile, desktop, wearable, or backend).
-
Proficiency in Swift/SwiftUI for iOS and watchOS, with shipped apps to show for it.
-
Comfort with Electron and web technologies (TypeScript/React) for a Mac client.
-
Genuine, broad capability across UX, UI, backend, and AI/ML — not deep in one area and dabbling in the rest.
-
Experience as one of the first engineers at an early-stage or pre-launch startup, shipping with minimal specification.
-
Demonstrated experience building and integrating agent/LLM-based features into production consumer apps.
-
Backend development experience building shared services and APIs across multiple client surfaces.
-
Ownership mindset: you make the call and implement it directly, without handing off.
-
Nice to have: experience with real-time or streaming systems (audio, ASR, live data pipelines), wearable/hardware/robotics development, or prior work at an AI-native consumer app or hardware-adjacent startup.
