About the Role
We’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer with a curious mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and a genuine interest in building high-quality software.
This role is ideal for someone early in their software engineering career who wants to learn by doing, supported by experienced engineers in a collaborative Agile environment. You’ll contribute to the design, development, and improvement of software that underpins our condition monitoring products, software that genuinely matters in safety-critical and industrial environments.
You won’t be expected to know everything on day one. What matters most is your willingness to learn, ask questions, and take pride in building reliable, well-structured solutions.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Design, Development & Implementation
- Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of software features under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Review user stories and requirements, asking questions to build understanding before implementation.
- Implement features using appropriate engineering principles, tools, and methodologies, following established patterns and standards.
- Support system design discussions by contributing ideas and learning from experienced team members.
- Assist with setting up and maintaining development environments and supporting tools.
Technical Engineering & Continuous Improvement
- Apply foundational software engineering principles to support the development of high‑quality products.
- Write clean, maintainable, well‑structured code with support and coaching from senior engineers.
- Use appropriate technologies, frameworks, and techniques, gradually building technical knowledge and confidence.
- Support the development and maintenance of systems, tools, and processes used across the software development lifecycle.
- Contribute feedback and ideas to help improve engineering practices, automation, tooling, and ways of working.
Problem Solving & Quality Delivery
- Identify technical issues and raise them promptly, contributing to problem‑solving discussions.
- Assist in analysing root causes and implementing solutions with the guidance of more experienced engineers.
- Ensure software meets quality, security, and performance expectations by following established testing and review processes.
- Produce clear and concise technical documentation to support maintainability and knowledge sharing.
- Communicate progress, risks, and blockers clearly and in a timely manner to the team and leadership.
Leadership, Collaboration & Agile Delivery
- Take responsibility for assigned work items within Agile sprints, delivering incrementally and seeking support when needed.
- Participate in task breakdowns, effort estimation, and Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across engineering and the wider business to deliver shared objectives.
- Work closely with senior engineers and technical leads to understand priorities, architecture, and design intent.
- Maintain strong customer focus by considering user needs and product goals in development work.
Professional Development
- Maintain and record Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to build technical and professional capability.
- Stay informed about evolving technologies, tools, and engineering practices relevant to your role.
- Seek feedback, coaching, and mentoring to support progression into more advanced engineering responsibilities.
- Apply safe, ethical, and sustainable engineering principles in all development activities.
- Demonstrate awareness of diversity, inclusion, and collaboration as core aspects of effective teamwork.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is genuinely interested in software engineering and motivated by the opportunity to build software that has a real-world impact. You enjoy problem solving and take a logical, thoughtful approach when working through technical challenges, breaking down complex ideas into practical solutions.
You’re naturally curious and keen to learn, comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance when something isn’t clear. You take pride in your work, care about quality, and understand that writing good software is about more than just making something work, it’s about making it reliable, maintainable, and fit for purpose.
You communicate clearly and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team, building positive relationships with both technical and non-technical colleagues. You’re proactive, adaptable, and willing to get involved wherever needed, whether that’s developing new features, improving existing code, or contributing ideas to improve how the team works.
You may already have some exposure to areas such as Agile delivery, industrial or embedded systems, or tools such as Atlassian Cloud, but this isn’t essential. What matters most is your enthusiasm, your willingness to learn, and your desire to grow as a software engineer.
Whether you’re a recent graduate, early in your career, or transitioning into your first junior engineering role, you’ll find this position offers strong support, meaningful work, and clear opportunities to develop your skills and progress your career.
We believe in equal opportunities
We believe teamwork, no matter where you’re from or how you identify, we’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.
We’re looking for hardworking, passionate individuals to join our team. When you come on board, we’ll provide the support and opportunities you need to unlock your potential and do your best work.
We’re committed to ensuring an accessible and comfortable experience for everyone. If there’s anything we can do to make your application process or working environment more accommodating, please let us know—either in your application or by reaching out directly. We’ll be more than happy to help.
If you don't meet all the requirements but think you might still be right for the role, please apply anyway. We're always keen to speak to people who connect with our mission and values.
