The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, the region's largest business association, is looking for a new team member who's outgoing, self-motivated and organized.

We are currently seeking a full-time salaried Business Advisor, MBAC, to serve clients of the Minority Business Assistance Center within our 12 county region by providing in-depth consulting to determine their needs and capabilities, business research and assistance in preparing business and strategic plans, identifying suggestions for courses of action and connecting them with resources.

The best candidate for this position will be people and detail oriented, organized, positive, full of energy, eager to learn, and passionate about the success of minority, women and veteran owned businesses in the Dayton region.

This position is subject to the organization’s at-will employment policy. In addition, the position is contingent upon the continuation of a grant relationship with the Ohio Department of Development Minority Business Division. The current grant period ends June 30, 2027.

JOB TITLE: Business Advisor, Dayton Region MBAC

SUPERVISOR: Vice President - Business Inclusion

FLSA: Full time, Salary Exempt

OVERVIEW: Serve clients of the Dayton Region Minority Business Assistance Center (Dayton MBAC) by providing in-depth consulting to determine their needs and capabilities, business research and assistance in preparing business and strategic plans, identifying suggestions for courses of action and connecting them with resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Execute the objectives outlined in the MBAC Scope of Work managed by the Program Director, Dayton Region MBAC by providing counseling, business research and assistance including:

  • Interviewing and assessing clients’ need and developing an action plan;
  • Assisting in the preparation of business & strategic plans;
  • Providing training sessions for clients in areas such as marketing, planning, customer acquisition;
  • Attending and facilitating outreach events;
  • Connect targeted minority-, veteran- and women-owned businesses to contracts, capital and consulting / coaching resources.

Support the needs/requests to accelerate MBE, VBE and WBE growth.

Leverage collaborations and networks with business resource groups, entrepreneurial support organizations and government entities in the region providing resources for minority and women-owned businesses.

Manage grantor, client, sponsor and organization’s expectations with clear and persuasive communication.

Work within the budgetary guidelines and actions plans of planned programs. Oversee planning and logistics for programming events. Assess event objectives and determine most cost-effective means to deliver results.

Work with others within the organization and community at large to market activities and events to increase participation and company/program awareness.

Maintain database information for assigned events and activities.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two years related work experience in small business support and/or program/event management. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to obtain Certified Business Advisor (CBA) certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Computer skills including proficiency with MS Office Suite, ZOOM and working knowledge of Salesforce
  • Working knowledge of various social media platforms
  • Experience in and knowledge of public and/or private procurement practices;
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Flexible team player willing to do what it takes to get the job done; adaptable and enjoys a challenge.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Local travel to off-site events, meetings and activities is necessary every week. Mileage reimbursement provided.

Pay: $48,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
