Principal Engineer, Software Engineering

Position Summary:

To help drive this next chapter, we're seeking an experienced and innovative Principal Engineer, Software Engineering to serve as a technical leader within our Digital Services & Support engineering organization. This role defines technical strategy, drives architectural excellence, and delivers modern digital experiences that support customer engagement across DIRECTV platforms. You will partner closely with engineering, product, and business leaders to build scalable, secure, and high-performing applications while advancing technology modernization initiatives across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines deep full-stack engineering expertise, proven technical leadership, and a passion for building innovative customer-facing solutions using modern web technologies and cloud-native architecture.

Job Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

• Serve as a senior technical leader for DIRECTV's digital platforms and customer-facing applications.
• Define architecture standards, engineering best practices, and modernization strategies.
• Guide engineering teams through complex architectural and technical decisions.
• Provide mentorship and technical coaching to engineers across the organization.
• Drive adoption of scalable, secure, and resilient engineering patterns.

Solution Architecture & Development:

• Design and implement enterprise-scale digital solutions using modern full-stack technologies.
• Lead application modernization initiatives and platform transformation efforts.
• Establish architectural standards that support scalability, performance, and operational excellence.
• Partner with Product, UX, Architecture, and Engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Engineering Excellence:

• Promote software engineering best practices across development teams.
• Drive code quality, automation, observability, and continuous integration practices.
• Support platform performance optimization, reliability improvements, and technical debt reduction.
• Influence strategic technology decisions and long-term platform roadmaps

Innovation & Modernization:

• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies where appropriate.
• Drive innovation across digital customer experience platforms.
• Champion cloud-native architectures and modern engineering approaches.
• Support experimentation that improves customer engagement and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

• 8-12 years of progressive software engineering experience.
• Extensive experience architecting and building large-scale digital applications.
• Strong experience leading complex engineering initiatives in modern web environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in full-stack application architecture and software design.
• Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments.

• Experience designing enterprise-scale customer-facing applications.
• Cloud-native architecture experience.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering or equivalent
