Job Purpose Responsible for purchasing stock and customer-order materials at competitive prices, while ensuring orders are placed and delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase stock according to replenishment requirements and customer orders.
- Source suitable suppliers and negotiate competitive pricing and terms.
- Monitor outstanding orders and follow up on deliveries.
- Identify and communicate stock shortages, delays and supplier issues.
- Monitor price changes and communicate relevant updates to sales teams.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date supplier comparisons.
- Ensure purchasing procedures and systems are followed correctly.
- Identify and report system or process issues.
- Perform other reasonable duties as required.
Requirements
- Strong communication and supplier relationship-building skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent telephone etiquette.
- Good MS Excel skills and general computer literacy.
- Experience with Pastel or similar systems.
- Knowledge of steel products, descriptions and terminology.
- Strong organisational and follow-up skills.
- Honest, reliable and able to work calmly under pressure.
