Location: Madison, WI Schedule: Part-time, approximately 12-24 hours per week

Position Summary

Edgewater Resources is seeking a highly organized Technical Editor to support senior engineering staff in developing professional reports, technical memoranda, spreadsheets, presentations, and other project documents.

The Technical Editor will work directly with engineers to turn technical knowledge, verbal direction, notes, markups, previous documents, and other source materials into clear, well-organized work products. Technical content and engineering decisions will remain the responsibility of the engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Convert verbal direction, notes, markups, and draft materials into organized documents.
  • Edit technical documents for clarity, organization, grammar, consistency, and presentation.
  • Prepare and format reports, technical memoranda, letters, scopes, tables, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Assemble information from previous reports, spreadsheets, figures, photographs, and other source materials.
  • Incorporate engineer comments and revisions and identify missing information requiring technical input.
  • Help senior staff organize document-related tasks, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Maintain organized files and document versions.
  • Use Microsoft 365, Adobe/Bluebeam, and appropriate AI/productivity tools to improve document-production efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and strong working knowledge of Excel.
  • Ability to take loosely organized or incomplete information and develop a clear, professional work product.
  • Comfortable working directly with senior technical professionals and asking questions when clarification is needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently after receiving direction.
  • Experience in engineering, architecture, construction, consulting, legal, scientific, or another technical/professional environment is preferred.

An engineering degree is not required. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with technical subject matter while understanding that engineering judgments and conclusions remain the responsibility of Edgewater's technical staff.

This is a part-time position of approximately 12-24 hours per week. Regular in-person work in Edgewater's St. Joseph office is preferred, with potential flexibility for some remote document-production work.
