Aviben, and it’s sister company, EFS Advisors, is seeking a motivated and resourceful Software Developer to help build, integrate, and enhance the technology platforms that support our business operations, advisor tools, and client experiences.
This role is on site in our Cambridge MN office - remote candidates not able to commute daily to our Cambridge MN office location will not be considered. The role will focus on software development, API integrations, data management, and process automation. You'll work with a variety of internal systems and third-party applications, helping connect platforms, improve data flow, troubleshoot issues, and develop solutions that make our business more efficient.
We're particularly interested in someone who embraces modern AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and accelerate delivery. Equally important is having the technical foundation and critical thinking skills to understand, review, test, and troubleshoot AI-generated code. We see AI as a valuable development tool, but not a replacement for sound software engineering practices.
The ideal candidate is a curious, adaptable problem solver who enjoys learning new technologies, collaborating with technical and nontechnical teams, and turning business challenges into practical technical solutions.
Who We Are
Aviben is a third-party administrator specializing in employee benefit plans, including Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs), Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), COBRA administration, and retirement plan administration.
What You'll Do

- Work with relational databases, SQL queries, and data transformations to support applications, reporting, and business processes.
- Create scripts, applications, and automation solutions that streamline workflows and reduce manual effort.
- Troubleshoot application issues, investigate data discrepancies, and help resolve integration problems.
AI-Assisted Development
- Use modern AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar technologies to assist with coding, testing, documentation, and problem-solving.
- Review and validate AI-generated code to ensure it functions as intended and follows good development practices.
- Identify and troubleshoot errors, security concerns, and inefficiencies in AI-generated or existing code.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the code being developed, including the ability to explain, modify, and support it independently.
- Stay curious about emerging AI development tools and identify opportunities to improve development efficiency and quality.
Technical Collaboration & Problem Solving
- Work with business stakeholders to understand needs and help translate them into technical requirements and solutions.
- Review vendor API documentation and integration options to help determine appropriate implementation approaches.
- Investigate technical issues involving multiple interconnected systems and work with others to resolve them.
- Collaborate with internal technology teams and external vendors on integration and development projects.
- Look for opportunities to simplify processes, improve data accuracy, and enhance existing applications through automation and integration.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent demonstrated experience through relevant projects and technical work.
- Experience building, consuming, or troubleshooting RESTful APIs.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Python, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java.
- Experience working with SQL and relational databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with JSON, HTTP, API authentication, and common data integration concepts.
- Experience using AI-assisted coding tools, such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude, with an understanding of the importance of reviewing and validating generated code.
- Ability to read, understand, debug, and modify existing code.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and nontechnical team members.
