About the role
EI Australia is seeking a Civil Engineer to contribute to the planning, design and delivery of civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will support project delivery from investigation and concept development through to detailed design, documentation and construction support, working collaboratively with clients, contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, compliant and high-quality outcomes.
Key responsibilities
· Undertake civil engineering design and analysis for relevant infrastructure and land development projects, as appropriate to project requirements.
· Prepare engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, scopes of work, reports and other technical documentation.
· Contribute to the design of civil infrastructure such as earthworks, pavements, access roads, drainage and stormwater systems, and associated site works where relevant to the project portfolio.
· Review survey information, site constraints, existing services and other project inputs to inform design development.
· Coordinate and liaise with clients, contractors, authorities, consultants and internal disciplines to resolve design issues and communicate technical advice.
· Support site inspections and construction-phase services, including responding to requests for information (RFIs), reviewing contractor submissions and assisting with design clarifications.
· Ensure engineering work complies with relevant Australian Standards, applicable codes, approval conditions and project quality procedures.
· Manage allocated tasks and project deliverables to meet agreed scope, programme, budget and quality requirements.
· Contribute to multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate interfaces with structural, geotechnical, environmental and other engineering disciplines.
· Assist with fee proposals, tenders and technical submissions, and contribute to client relationships and business development under appropriate supervision.
Skills and experience
· A degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent recognised qualification.
· 3–5 years of post-graduate experience in civil engineering.
· Demonstrated experience in civil engineering design, analysis and preparation of engineering documentation relevant to the role.
· Sound understanding of civil engineering principles and the ability to prepare and check calculations using appropriate engineering methods and software.
· Experience with relevant design tools and software used for civil engineering projects; familiarity with commonly used CAD, modelling or drainage design packages is advantageous.
· Understanding of applicable Australian Standards, codes, authority requirements and Australian engineering practices relevant to the work.
· Ability to interpret survey data, plans, specifications and technical reports and apply them to engineering design.
· Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently when required and contribute effectively within a project team.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, a proactive approach and high attention to detail.
· Relevant professional accreditation or registration, or working towards it, is desirable.
Desirable experience
Experience in civil infrastructure, land development, earthworks, road and pavement design, stormwater management or construction-phase engineering support will be highly regarded, depending on the projects undertaken.
