About Us

Valmont Custom Homes (a division of Eleanor Designs) builds single-family & multi - family homes across Calgary and the surrounding area - inner-city infill, homes in newer communities, and custom homes.

The Role

You own the build. From permit-in-hand to warranty walkthrough, you are accountable for schedule, budget, quality and the trades on every home in your portfolio - roughly six to ten homes running concurrently at various stages.

You report directly to the director. You make the calls on site, and you’re expected to make them quickly.

What you’ll own

  • Schedule. Build and hold critical-path schedules across multiple homes at different stages. Sequence trades so nobody’s stacked on top of anyone else and nobody’s waiting on a decision.
  • Trades. Scope, tender, award and manage every trade and supplier. Hold them to scope, schedule and quality - and to our Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Budget. Manage project budgets against estimate. Review and approve invoices and progress claims, control change orders, and flag variances before they become losses.
  • Quality. Enforce our SOPs and quality checklists at every stage - from footings and backfill through framing, envelope, mechanical rough-in and final finish. Building envelope execution matters to us; air barrier and flashing details get inspected, not assumed.
  • Code, permits and inspections. Coordinate City of Calgary and municipal district inspections, manage deficiencies, and keep permit conditions satisfied. Working knowledge of NBC (AE) Part 9 is expected, not optional.
  • Client experience. For custom builds, you are the client’s main point of contact through construction: site walks, selections deadlines, progress updates, and honest answers when something changes.
  • Safety and site control. A clean, safe, organized site is a non-negotiable standard.
  • Warranty and closeout. Deliver a home that passes a pre-possession walkthrough with a short list, and close out warranty items properly.
  • Process. Help us build out and sharpen the SOPs, checklists and templates that let this company scale from six homes to sixty without losing quality.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • 12+ years of hands-on residential construction experience, with a significant portion in a senior Project Manager, Construction Manager or Site Superintendent role.
  • Proven residential background. Single-family custom, infill, duplex, rowhouse or multi-family Part 9 wood-frame. Commercial-only experience is not a fit for this role.
  • An established trade network you can bring with you. You know the good framers, concrete crews, HVAC contractors and finishers in the Calgary market and, just as importantly, you know which ones to avoid. Trades take your call.
  • Ability to work to Standard Operating Procedures - and to write and improve them. We run a documented process, not tribal knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of the Alberta Building Code / NBC (AE) Part 9, City of Calgary permitting and inspection processes, and new home warranty requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and engineered drawings and catch conflicts before they get built.
  • A demonstrated problem solver. Sites go sideways. Weather, backorders, no-shows, surprise conditions, a client who changes their mind in week nine. We want the person whose first instinct is a solution and a phone call, not an email explaining why it isn’t their fault.
  • Strong budget and cost control ability, with experience managing tenders, contracts, change orders and progress claims.
  • Valid Alberta driver’s licence and reliable vehicle. Site travel across Calgary and the surrounding region is part of the job.
  • Excellent communication skills with trades, clients, consultants and inspectors alike.

Considered an Asset

  • Red Seal trade certification, journeyman ticket, or hands-on trade background
  • Gold Seal certification, PMP, or CET / Architectural Technologist designation
  • Experience with construction management software (Buildertrend, Procore, CoConstruct or similar)
  • Familiarity with Alberta new home warranty processes
  • Estimating and takeoff experience
  • Familiarity with Built Green, energy code compliance (9.36), and secondary suite requirements
  • Safety certifications (CSTS, First Aid, fall protection, COR familiarity)

What We Offer

  • Base salary of $90,000 – $140,000, set on experience, plus a performance bonus tied to on-time, on-budget delivery
  • Vehicle allowance and phone allowance
  • Health benefits
  • Autonomy. A direct line to the owner and quick decisions.
  • Room to grow. Our volume is increasing year over year, and this role grows into a Construction Manager seat as it does.

Pay: $90,000.00-$140,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Company events
  • On-site parking
  • Paid time off

Application question(s):

  • How you’ve built your trade relationships over the years, and how you keep good crews coming back.

Experience:

  • Residential construction: 10 years (required)

Work Location: On the road
