The Content Catalog domain sits at the heart of the Content Platform studio. Our mission is to provide a single source of truth so content can be trusted, governed, and reused consistently across the platform. We own the core systems and workflows that make catalog of content accurate, complete, and available: from catalog APIs and content lifecycle orchestration through to the quality of the content.

Impact in the role

Every song, podcast and audiobook starts as an original file, and our team owns the systems that receive, store and manage those files. We can already tell when an incoming file duplicates content we hold. The next step is acting on that, so duplicates are no longer stored and processed all over again. In this role you'll help build ways to reuse what we've already processed and keep original storage efficient, secure and compliant at petabyte scale.

Who you are

You have solid experience building and operating backend services and APIs in production at scale, and you are proficient in Java or Scala, ideally both, since our services are largely Java and our data pipelines largely Scala.

You understand API design, schema evolution, and backward compatibility in systems where stability matters, and you are comfortable modelling data for auditability, versioning, and efficient querying. For us, that means file lifecycle states and the relationships between original files and their derived outputs, typically in a wide-column store.

You have worked with data pipelines and understand the tradeoffs between real time and batch processing. Ours are batch pipelines built on Apache Beam and Cloud Dataflow.

You are at home with the cloud data services around them: object storage, wide-column NoSQL, message queues and warehouse queries, on GCP or the equivalent in another major cloud.

You manage infrastructure as code, declaratively defining storage, messaging, NoSQL, analytics and IAM resources, and you have solid security fundamentals, including encryption at rest, key management and access control.

You think carefully about the downstream impact of what you build, from how policy logic is structured to how it surfaces in enforcement decisions and regulatory reporting.

You have worked in regulated or compliance sensitive environments, dealing with right-to-be-forgotten deletion, subject access requests, retention and audit trails, or you are keen to develop that experience.

It is a plus, not a requirement, to have worked on media or content platforms such as transcoding pipelines, CDN-served content or rights handling, or to have optimised the cost of petabyte-scale storage.

You are comfortable navigating unfamiliar codebases, ramping up quickly in new domains, and contributing meaningfully without needing to own the full context from day one.

You collaborate well across teams and can build trust quickly with new groups.

You communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders.

You are comfortable with ambiguity and can identify the most impactful work without always having it defined for you.
