Summary
The Senior AI Python Engineer role is key in a leading banking environment, focusing on the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data-driven applications that support crucial business operations such as VAT recovery and regulatory reporting. The position emphasizes leveraging AI initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
Key Responsibilities

Monitor and support critical Python-based data applications and workflows, ensuring high availability, stability and performance.

Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues, application failures and production incidents.

Proactively identify performance bottlenecks across Python applications, SQL databases and MongoDB environments.

Manage and optimise large-scale data processing workflows handling high-volume datasets.

Monitor job execution and batch processing schedules using Autosys, ensuring successful delivery of critical reporting processes.

Support production environments within Linux, using scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency.

Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to resolve data discrepancies and ensure reporting accuracy.

Develop monitoring, alerting and operational best practices across data platforms.

Use Git and Agile delivery methodologies to support controlled releases and continuous improvements.

Contribute to root cause analysis, incident management and preventative maintenance activities.

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members.

Ensure data solutions meet regulatory, audit and compliance requirements within a banking environment.
Key Requirements
-
10+ years of Python experience, including support and maintenance of enterprise-scale applications.

Strong operational data engineering experience supporting large-scale, business-critical data platforms.

Proven experience monitoring and troubleshooting production data workflows and batch processing environments.

Strong SQL skills with experience analysing performance issues and optimising complex queries.

Experience supporting MongoDB environments, including monitoring, troubleshooting and performance tuning.

Hands-on Linux administration and Bash scripting experience.

Experience with Autosys or similar enterprise scheduling and workload automation tools.
-
Strong understanding of production support, incident management and root cause analysis.

Experience implementing monitoring, alerting and operational best practices.

Knowledge of testing frameworks including PyTest and TDD principles.

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

Banking or financial services experience preferred.
