There’s never been a better time to be in energy. And there’s never been a more exciting time to be at Endeavour Energy.

More than 2.7 million people across New South Wales rely on us every day for the supply of safe and reliable power to their homes and businesses. We employ more than 1,700 people across our catchment, making us one of the largest employers in Sydney’s Greater West.

To work with us in this role, you don’t need to have any energy experience. We need talented people who are ready for challenge and growth and value a sense of care and belonging. Why? Because our vision is to lead the way with smarter energy solutions. Play your part in helping us to put the customer first and transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future for us all.

As the Engineer – Future Energy Planning, you’ll help plan and shape one of the fastest-growing electricity networks in NSW at a time of significant change.

With increasing rooftop solar, electric vehicles, battery storage and electrification changing how customers use and generate energy, you’ll work at the intersection of power systems engineering, network planning, forecasting and data. Your insights will help us understand what the network needs next and support the transition to a cleaner energy future across Western Sydney, the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Blue Mountains.

This is an opportunity to apply strong engineering and analytical skills to real-world network challenges while helping evolve the tools, models and processes that underpin the next generation of energy planning.

About the role

You’ll contribute to system planning and connection assessments, modelling how changing demand and customer energy resources will impact our distribution and sub-transmission network.

Your work will include:

  • Planning the distribution system and assessing its ability to accommodate increasing demand and high volumes of generation connections.
  • Undertaking power system modelling, feasibility assessments and scenario analysis to inform network planning and investment decisions.
  • Identifying innovative technical solutions and investment strategies that balance network performance, customer needs and cost.
  • Supporting integrated forecasts and models covering customer demand, energy consumption, customer energy resource uptake and hosting capacity.
  • Helping translate scenarios and forecasts into actionable long-term network plans.
  • Working closely with connections, design and delivery teams to support coordinated and efficient network development.
  • Engaging with major energy users and producers, developers and market stakeholders, including AEMO, to understand emerging needs and inform proactive planning.
  • Supporting core planning products and annual reviews that communicate network needs and priorities.
  • Helping integrate advanced analytics, automation and digital tools into planning processes to enable faster, more dynamic scenario modelling and risk-based analysis.

About you

You’ll bring an electrical engineering foundation, strong analytical capability and an interest in solving complex problems within a rapidly changing energy system.

You will have:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering, ideally with an electrical or related engineering background.
  • An understanding of power systems and distribution networks.
  • Knowledge of emerging energy technologies such as renewable generation, battery storage and electric vehicles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to examine complex processes and identify opportunities to improve or streamline them.
  • The ability to work through uncertainty, evaluate different scenarios and communicate technically sound recommendations.
  • Experience conducting feasibility studies and load-flow analysis using DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar power system simulation software will be highly regarded.
  • It would be great if you also bring
  • Experience with SQL and Python and an interest in using programming to automate processes, analyse large datasets and generate insights.
  • Exposure to cloud-based data and analytics platforms such as Databricks.
  • Experience supporting process improvement, transformation, digital tool implementation or other change initiatives.
  • The ability to use transparent modelling, data and scenario analysis to communicate complex technical concepts and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating across technical disciplines and with customers, developers, network businesses or energy market stakeholders.

You don’t need to tick every box. If you have strong engineering fundamentals, analytical curiosity and are motivated by the opportunity to help plan the future energy system, we encourage you to apply.

Why this role?

The energy transition is creating new challenges for electricity networks, from connecting growing volumes of renewable generation and batteries to preparing for EV charging and increasing electrification.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work on those challenges directly, combining traditional power system engineering with data, digital tools and emerging technologies. You’ll contribute to decisions that influence how the network evolves to meet changing customer needs and support NSW’s transition to a cleaner energy future.
