We are looking for an Oracle Senior Developer who can design, build and tune high-performing Oracle database solutions. You will own database objects end to end, from design through deployment, and keep production systems fast, stable and well documented. You will work closely with data architects, application developers and support teams. The role suits someone who enjoys solving performance problems and writing clean, reusable PL/SQL.
Key responsibilities
Database development
Design, code, test and deploy database objects, including complex stored procedures, packages, functions, views, materialised views, triggers and sequences.
Translate business and application requirements into efficient, secure database logic.
Build and maintain data load, transformation and batch scripts.
Manage database changes through version control and structured release processes.
Performance tuning
Optimise slow-running SQL queries, PL/SQL blocks and database scripts.
Analyse execution plans using Explain Plan, TKPROF, AWR and similar diagnostic tools.
Apply indexing strategies, optimiser hints, partitioning and query rewrites to improve throughput and response times.
Proactively identify and remove performance risks before they reach production.
Architecture and data modelling
Collaborate with data architects to design relational database schemas, tables and constraints.
Apply normalisation, referential integrity and other relational database best practices.
Contribute to logical and physical data models and review them for scalability and maintainability.
Production support and troubleshooting
Identify, investigate and resolve production bugs, execution exceptions and performance bottlenecks.
Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent fixes, not just workarounds.
Support incident and problem management within agreed SLAs, including on-call support when required.
Documentation and code quality
Write clean, maintainable and reusable code that follows agreed coding standards.
Conduct peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other developers.
Maintain technical specifications, schema documentation and data dictionaries.
Required skills and qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
4–6 years of hands-on experience in Oracle database development.
Experience supporting production databases and resolving incidents under time pressure.
Familiarity with version control (Git) and SDLC or Agile delivery practices.
Ability to write clear technical documentation.
Preferred skills
Oracle certification, such as Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate or Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional.
Experience with Oracle 19c or later, including partitioning, AWR and ASH reports.
Exposure to ETL tools or data warehousing concepts.
Unix/Linux shell scripting for job automation and scheduling.
Experience with CI/CD for database changes (for example, Liquibase or Flyway).
Working knowledge of a second database platform, such as PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
Exposure to cloud databases, such as Oracle Cloud, AWS RDS or Azure SQL.
Behavioural competencies
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
Clear written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
Ownership and accountability for the quality and stability of delivered code.
Ability to prioritise and stay calm when handling production issues.
A collaborative mindset and willingness to share knowledge with the team.
