ExpatInsure
Community Growth Manager
Social media, expat communities & lead generation
Location: Weston-super-Mare — this is an office-based role. Lived experience as an expat is still a genuine advantage here, so if you have been one, tell us.
Reports to: CEO
Type: Full-time, permanent. This is a commercial, target-driven role.
About ExpatInsure
ExpatInsure is an FCA-authorised, whole-of-market international private medical insurance (IPMI) brokerage. We help expats, soon-to-be expats and globally mobile families find the right health insurance wherever in the world they live, and we are regulated across the UK, US and EU. We are a fast-growing, founder-led business, and this is a new role reporting directly to the CEO.
The role
Expats do not find their health insurance through adverts. They ask other expats — in WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups, subreddits and forums where access is earned rather than bought. Your job is to make ExpatInsure the name that comes back when that question is asked.
This is not a “post pretty pictures and hope” role, and it is not a traditional social media manager role. It is a community-led growth role with a hard commercial edge: you will live inside expat communities, build genuine relationships with the people who run them, create original content people actually want, and convert all of that into a steady, measurable flow of qualified leads against a clear monthly target.
It is a commercial role, and it moves at a commercial pace: daily presence in communities, plenty of genuine conversations each week, content shipping regularly across channels, and your results reported weekly. You will have clear targets, full training and support to hit them, and a bonus structure that pays you directly when you do.
Everything you do will be done openly. You will be a real, named person, transparently affiliated with ExpatInsure — helpful, informed, never spammy — and a trusted voice in the communities we serve.
What you'll do1. Community-led growth
- Find, join and grow a presence inside the communities where expats actually congregate: WhatsApp and Telegram groups, Facebook groups, subreddits, Expat.com, InterNations and city-level forums — channels where trust is earned and attribution is rarely clean.
- Grow our followers and subscribers on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Quora and Reddit — highly targeted audiences of expats, soon-to-be expats and globally mobile professionals — and turn that audience into engagement, newsletter sign-ups and visits to our website.
- Operate and grow ExpatInsure's own communities, including our subreddits (r/expathealthinsurance, r/visitexpatinsure) and city-level groups we launch and host transparently.
- Join relevant conversations with useful, practical advice — becoming a known, trusted voice rather than a faceless brand — and become a genuine subject-matter expert on expat health insurance (we will train you).
2. Partnerships & ambassador network
- Build and maintain relationships with the admins of expat WhatsApp and Facebook communities in our target cities, establishing ExpatInsure as the openly recommended health insurance resource: pinned recommendations, “resident expert” arrangements, co-created guides and Q&A sessions.
- Develop the adjacent network that feeds these communities: relocation agents, international schools, coworking spaces and expat-focused local businesses.
- Hand any formal referral or partnership arrangements over to our partnerships lead to structure and set up properly — your job is to find and warm them up.
3. Content & channel management
- Own our rolling social and content calendar: creation, scheduling, posting, monitoring and reporting across all channels.
- Create original short-form content — posts, carousels, stories, explainers, checklists, Q&As — written by you, in a human voice, calibrated to each community's culture. One strong idea, repurposed intelligently across platforms.
- Work with our content creator to coordinate content across the website, blog and communities; feed the questions and topics you hear in communities back into the content plan; upload and schedule agreed content on our WordPress blog.
4. Social listening & lead generation
- Operate, monitor and further develop our social listening capability — including our existing Facebook scanning tool — to identify people actively researching or discussing international health insurance, working within platform rules.
- Evaluate and build lightweight tooling and automation (no-code, low-code or AI-assisted — we are an enthusiastic AI-tooling business) that scales your reach without scaling headcount, and scout emerging channels (including AI/generative-engine visibility) before they become mainstream.
- Use simple frameworks to identify people with a real need, qualify the basics (location, family situation, timing), capture their details into our CRM, and hand over cleanly to our sales team.
5. Measurement, reporting & experimentation
- Track and report weekly on audience growth, engagement, partnerships, and — above all — leads generated and their quality (% progressing to quotes and policies).
- Because many of these channels have little or no native attribution, help build credible proxy measurement — tracked links, promo codes, “how did you hear about us” capture — so channel impact can be argued with evidence, not anecdote.
- Run small, fast experiments — hooks, formats, communities, DMs vs comments vs posts — and report clearly on what's working, what isn't, and what you're changing next.
What success looks like
A qualified lead is a prospect with a genuine international health insurance need who consents to contact and progresses to the quote stage — not a scraped email address. Your performance will be measured against:
- A clear monthly qualified-lead target, phased over your first three months. We will share the specific numbers at interview.
- Active community partnerships built and maintained across our target cities.
- Follower and subscriber growth on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Quora and Reddit; growth in group and community membership and newsletter subscribers; meaningful engagement (comments, saves, DMs, conversations joined); and website visits driven from social.
- A consistent publishing cadence with a visible test-and-learn loop, reported clearly every week.
What we're looking forMust-haves
- Demonstrable experience using social media and communities to generate leads or customers — not just followers and likes. You can show us numbers.
- Genuine fluency in how expat and community spaces work: you know how to be visible without being annoying, and you have operated in closed or low-visibility communities (WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups, forums, subreddits) without getting banned.
- Strong working knowledge of Facebook (groups, pages, Messenger), WhatsApp communities, Reddit (subs, rules, AMAs), Quora, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok.
- Excellent written English with a friendly, human, helpful tone — your content is original and unmistakably written by a person.
- Relationship-building charm: admins, partners and community members genuinely like dealing with you.
- Fluent with the modern toolkit: social publishing and listening platforms such as Vista Social (or similar), creative tools such as Canva and Unsplash, and — importantly — AI tools, which you use instinctively to speed up routine tasks and multiply your output.
- Highly organised, proactive and self-starting — you run your own calendar, pipeline and reporting without being chased.
- Comfortable operating without clean data: you make calls with proxy evidence and run a disciplined test-and-learn cadence rather than waiting for perfect attribution.
Nice-to-haves
- You are, or have been, an expat yourself — you know these communities because you live in them.
- Experience in insurance, expat services, finance, relocation or travel; understanding of best practice in regulated sectors (we will train you on the specifics).
- Ability to build simple tools with no-code, low-code or AI-assisted development.
- Experience with a CRM; a second language.
Who you are
- Curious — you enjoy figuring out where people hang out online and how they think.
- Resourceful — you find ways around obstacles, and you would rather ship and learn than wait for perfect.
- Ethical and respectful — you understand that in these communities, trust is the entire asset.
- Data-aware — you care about the numbers, not just the vibes.
- Commercially minded — you get a kick out of seeing your activity turn into real business results.
Compensation
£26,000–£28,000 base salary plus an uncapped performance bonus per qualified lead, giving on-target earnings of c. £38,000–£40,000 — with no ceiling. We will walk you through the bonus structure at interview. The better you are at this, the more you earn.
Playing it straight
ExpatInsure is an FCA-authorised insurance intermediary, and we win in communities by being transparently, genuinely useful — not by pretending. All community activity is conducted openly through approved, named profiles with disclosed affiliation; our tools operate within platform rules; and customer-facing communications follow financial-promotions sign-off. We will give you full training and compliance support — you bring the judgement and the craft.
How to apply
Please send us:
- A short note on how you have used social media or communities to generate leads or customers before, with examples and numbers if you have them.
- Links to any profiles, groups or content you currently manage or have grown.
- Two quick worked examples: (1) how you would introduce yourself in a Facebook group for people moving abroad, and (2) how you would approach the admin of a 500-member “Expats in Dubai” WhatsApp group about ExpatInsure becoming their recommended insurance resource.
