Job Title Shipping Manager

Position Summary

The Shipping Manager is responsible for leading all shipping and distribution activities within a food processing facility. This role ensures the accurate, safe, and timely shipment of finished goods while maintaining compliance with food safety, quality, customer, regulatory, and transportation requirements. The Shipping Manager oversees shipping personnel, inventory accuracy, carrier relationships, and shipping performance to support customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily shipping operations to ensure on-time and complete customer deliveries.
  • Coordinate finished good shipments with production.
  • Ensure products are loaded accurately according to customer specifications and shipping documents.
  • Monitor shipping schedules and prioritize shipments to meet customer deadlines.
  • Ensure all shipping documentation is accurate and completed correctly, including bills of lading, shipping manifests, customs documentation (if applicable), and customer paperwork.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations, company policies, HACCP, SQF/BRC standards, and customer requirements.
  • Verify trailer cleanliness and suitability before loading food products.
  • Monitor adherence to sanitation, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and workplace safety standards.
  • Support food safety audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Maintain shipping records required for traceability and product recalls.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy of finished goods and shipping materials.
  • Coordinate cycle counts and investigate inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper stock rotation and FIFO/FEFO practices.
  • Work closely with warehouse teams to optimize storage utilization and product flow.
  • Supervise, train, and develop shipping supervisors, leads, forklift operators, and shipping associates.
  • Schedule staffing levels to meet operational demands.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and corrective action when necessary.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, throughput, and customer service.
  • Utilize KPI reporting to measure shipping and operational performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive shipping and warehouse management experience.
  • Experience within a food manufacturing or food processing environment preferred.
  • Experience managing unionized and/or non-unionized teams is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of food safety and quality systems.
  • Knowledge of food industry regulations and standards including HACCP, SQF, GMPs, and traceability requirements.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in ERP, WMS, and shipping management systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Experience with transportation management systems and carrier coordination.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Work performed in both office and warehouse/manufacturing environments.
  • Frequent walking throughout the facility.
  • Exposure to refrigerated, freezer, and production areas.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or extended hours as operational requirements dictate.

Pay: $70,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
