About FMF Glass Hardware

FMF Glass Hardware supplies glass shower, railing, and architectural hardware products. Our catalogue includes approximately 700 products and more than 1,000 variations, with multiple SKUs often sharing the same technical drawing.

We are hiring an experienced Technical CAD Designer to establish a consistent technical documentation system and produce professional drawings and supporting materials across our catalogue, prioritizing structural and other key products.

About the Role

You will work from existing supplier drawings, specifications, and technical documents provided by FMF. Your responsibility will be to turn these materials into clear, accurate, standardized documents for glass fabricators, installation companies, architects, engineers, and contractors.

We need someone who can independently establish appropriate documentation standards, identify missing details, and manage the project from initial templates through completed product document packages.

This is a dedicated technical documentation role. It does not include sales or customer service responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review existing supplier documents and establish consistent FMF templates, drawing conventions, dimensioning practices, file naming, and revision controls.
  • Research relevant industry documentation practices and recommend the documents and details appropriate for each product category.
  • Create detailed product drawings, including dimensions, relevant views, component details, and supporting notes.
  • Develop 3D product models and illustrations to clearly communicate product appearance, assembly, and use.
  • Prepare standard glass fabrication and cutout templates for applicable hardware models, including editable DWG files.
  • Create exploded views and component diagrams where useful.
  • Prepare additional technical materials, such as installation diagrams and specification sheets, where appropriate.
  • Identify missing or conflicting technical information and communicate directly with suppliers to resolve it.
  • Coordinate physical product measurements with the FMF team when supplier information is insufficient.
  • Check completed drawings for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and alignment with verified source information.
  • Organize a searchable technical document library that clearly links products and SKU variations to the correct files.
  • Deliver editable source files and finished documents suitable for website downloads. Our IT team will handle uploading.
  • Maintain a project tracker showing completed work, outstanding information, priorities, and revisions.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Demonstrated professional experience producing technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing, fabrication, architectural products, hardware, or a closely related field.
  • Strong AutoCAD proficiency, including preparation of accurate, usable DWG files.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion, or a comparable application.
  • Ability to interpret supplier drawings and convert them into clear, consistent product documentation.
  • Strong understanding of dimensioning, tolerances, drawing layouts, and revision management.
  • Ability to identify technical information gaps and resolve them without relying on unverified assumptions.
  • Experience organizing technical files and managing multiple drawing packages.
  • Strong attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to work independently.

Particularly Valuable Experience

  • Glass fabrication, glazing systems, shower hardware, glass railings, or architectural hardware.
  • Technical drafting within an engineering office, architectural firm, or product manufacturing company.
  • Preparation of glass cutout templates, fabrication drawings, exploded views, or installation documentation.
  • Establishing or improving a company’s drawing and documentation standards.

Relevant practical experience and the quality of your previous work will be central to our selection process.

Project Priorities

The initial stage will involve reviewing our existing documents, establishing FMF’s documentation standards, and completing a pilot group of products. You will then work through the catalogue according to an agreed schedule, prioritizing structural and other key hardware.

The scope focuses on documenting existing products and supplied technical information. Engineering calculations, load analysis, and engineering certification are outside this position’s scope.

What FMF Provides

  • A workstation and the software licences needed for the agreed workflow.
  • Existing supplier drawings, specifications, and supporting product information.
  • Access to physical products and assistance from our team when measurements are needed.
  • Ownership of a defined technical project with visible, practical results.
