Job description

Our Head Office department is in the heart of Piccadilly and occupies the 5th & 6th floor of our beautiful flagship store. This central London location offers so much to explore including restaurants, bars, cultural sites, shopping and more, and only a short walk from the Green Park Tube Station and plenty of bus stops.

As a Business Analyst at Fortnum & Mason, your role will involve conducting comprehensive business analysis services to identify, clarify, and evaluate business problems, opportunities, and requirements for change. This will support the identification of solutions that deliver value to the organisation.

You will collaborate with Digital Transformation Managers and Project Managers to provide business analysis services, encompassing pre-project shaping and requirements management. In supporting the Lead Business Analyst, you will contribute to the development of world-class business analysis services, adhering to Fortnum & Mason's processes and utilizing the associated templates and tools. This approach will ensure the cost-effective delivery of quality systems and facilitate transformational change.

Responsibilities

Requirements Gathering and Analysis:

  • Engage with stakeholders across the business (e.g. Online, Retail, Logistics, Finance) to understand business needs and challenges
  • Document and prioritise functional and non-functional requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives
  • Conduct detailed analysis of existing processes, systems, and workflows to identify opportunities for optimisation and innovation

Solution Design and Delivery:

  • Collaborate with the Solution Architect, Solution Delivery Manager, Technology teams, UX teams and third-party providers to design solutions that address business needs while ensuring feasibility, scalability, security, and supportability
  • Translate business requirements into detailed specifications for development teams, including user stories and process maps
  • Support the evaluation and selection of technologies and systems

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

  • Build relationships with senior stakeholders and understand their business challenges, to be able to drive out root requirements and shape feasible, pragmatic technology solutions that can deliver the desired business outcomes and contribute to the long-term strategy at Fortnum & Mason
  • Act as the primary point of contact between business teams and technical teams, ensuring clear communication of requirements and project updates
  • Facilitate workshops, meetings and interviews (where required) to capture input and validate solutions
  • Provide training and documentation for end-users to ensure smooth adoption of new systems and processes

Testing and Quality Assurance:

  • Develop test plans in partnership with the Test Manager and co-ordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet business expectations
  • Identify, log and manage defects or issues to resolution (or a business approved workaround)

Project Support and Change Management:

  • Work closely with Digital Transformation Managers, or Project Managers to deliver initiatives on time and within budget
  • Assist Project / Change Managers in creation of change management strategies and communication plans to ensure successful rollout of new systems and processes

Business Analyst Processes

  • Understand standards and processes for use across all projects and programmes. This will include collecting lessons learnt to allow continual improvement of the processes and templates
  • Championing Fortum & Mason processes, tools and templates on their projects/programmes ensuring that supplier business analyst delivery the expected outcomes, ensuring that existing Technology solutions are fully explored and utilised where applicable
  • Ensuring all business analyst deliverables (those relating to requirements, benefits, use cases, business case) produced on their projects/programmes are consistent and complete, as well as reusing existing artifacts where appropriate
  • Using a wide variety of business analysis techniques and tools to successfully elicit requirements, document requirements, document as-is and to-be states while ensuring traceability of requirements throughout the lifecycle

General

  • Contribute to the in-house business analysis community/body of knowledge
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with key Technology partners and service providers
  • Work with procurement and the relevant business owner to support on vendor selection
  • Identify industry trends and leverage them to unlock new opportunities for Fortnum & Mason
  • Collaborate with the Director of Transformation, Digital Transformation Managers and Business Analysts to ensure an aligned and united front on ways of working and understanding of business roadmap

Experince and Qualifications:

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst in a multi-channel retail environment, or similar sector
  • Experience in process mapping, gap analysis, and delivery process improvement initiatives
  • Strong expertise in requirement documenting, and validating business requirements for Digital Transformation projects
  • Stakeholder and relationship management skills, tactful diplomat, assists in the facilitation of team and client meetings, workshops and a team player working across multiple virtual teams
  • Working with ambiguity and sourcing innovative and creative solutions, sometimes with limited resource and budget

Desirable

  • Strong understanding of retail systems, including eCommerce platforms, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and ERP/CRM systems
  • Familiarity with end-to-end project lifecycles and Agile methodologies
  • BCS Chartered Institute for IT Business Analysis Certifications or IIBA International Institute of Business Analysis Certifications
  • Certifications from key methodologies e.g. Agile and PRINCE

Competencies, Behaviours and Skills

Essential

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business outcomes / requirements and deliver clear actions
  • Great communicator (oral, written and presentation) able to engage, influence and deliver difficult/sensitive information to a diverse group including Executives, Managers, and Subject Matter Experts
  • Adaptability to work across multiple domains (eCommerce, retail systems, hospitality systems, internal enabling systems etc.)
  • Ability to work pro-actively both independently and within a team
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstratable experience of good business analysis delivery practices
  • Proficiency in business analysis tools, such as Visio, Jira, Miro, Azure Dev Ops, PowerPoint, Excel, Word or equivalent

Desirable

  • Basic understanding of retail KPIs and metrics (e.g. sales per square foot, conversion rates
  • Comfortable and confident in presenting insights, strategies, project updates and recommendations to C-suite executives, effectively influencing decision-making at the highest level
  • Demonstrates a genuine passion for food, with a strong interest in trends, quality, and innovation within the industry
