General Manager

About JOYSHARE FOODS INC.

JOYSHARE FOODS INC. and its predecessor have nearly 20 years of experience in the Canadian food import and wholesale industry.

We import a wide range of quality food products from Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, and other Asian markets, supplying major supermarket chains, Asian grocery stores, convenience stores, and foodservice customers across Canada.

As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and results-driven General Manager to lead the company's day-to-day operations, oversee cross-functional teams, improve operational performance, and help drive the next stage of our growth.

This is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the CEO.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business & Operational Management

  • Lead and oversee the company's day-to-day business operations.
  • Work closely with the CEO to develop and execute annual business plans and growth strategies.
  • Chair weekly management meetings and coordinate activities across departments.
  • Establish and continuously improve company policies, management systems, and operating procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for the company's day-to-day operations when the CEO is unavailable.

2. Department Leadership

Provide leadership, direction, and coordination across key departments, including:

  • Purchasing
  • Sales
  • Customer Service
  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Warehouse & Logistics

Ensure effective communication and collaboration across departments to achieve company-wide objectives.

3. Performance Management & KPIs

  • Develop and implement company-wide KPI and performance management systems.
  • Set clear annual and quarterly objectives for department managers.
  • Monitor departmental performance and hold regular business performance reviews.
  • Establish accountability across the management team and drive continuous improvement.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on execution, responsibility, and measurable results.

4. Financial & Business Performance

Take responsibility for key areas of business performance, including:

  • Purchasing management
  • Sales performance
  • Inventory management
  • Cost control and profitability

Use operational and financial data to improve inventory turnover, operating efficiency, cost management, and overall profitability.

5. Sales & Key Customer Relationships

  • Support the sales team in achieving annual sales targets.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with key customers.
  • Identify new sales channels and business development opportunities.
  • Work closely with Purchasing and Marketing to support new product launches and market development.

6. Supply Chain & Logistics

  • Oversee purchasing, inventory, warehousing, and transportation operations.
  • Optimize supply chain processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Control logistics and operating costs.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels while improving inventory turnover.

7. External & Business Relationships

Represent the company and, where appropriate, the CEO in maintaining professional relationships with:

  • Key customers
  • Domestic and international suppliers
  • Banks and other business partners

Represent the company at important business meetings, industry events, and other commercial activities while maintaining a professional corporate image.

8. Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, develop, coach, and manage department managers.
  • Establish talent development and succession planning processes.
  • Strengthen teamwork, accountability, and execution across the organization.
  • Foster a positive, efficient, collaborative, and results-oriented workplace culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above; Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of management experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management role.
  • Experience in food importing, food wholesale, FMCG, distribution, or large-scale retail is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of purchasing, sales, inventory, logistics, and financial management.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and people-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with QuickBooks is preferred.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and growing business environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Canadian food import and distribution industry.
  • Experience sourcing or working with Asian food products and suppliers.
  • Mandarin and/or Cantonese language skills are considered an asset.
