About You

You are a builder who leads. You have shipped AI agents and data products that people across a company use every day, and you still write code. You'd rather build one trusted system on the company's own data than buy another tool or produce another deck.

You care about two customers: the teams who use what you build and the person buying from goop. You know which models fit which tasks and what they cost. You're excited to make goop a company that knows its customer and runs its repeatable work on agents, with a person approving what matters.

Who You Are

  • Hands-on builder: you prototype the agent yourself, then make it reliable enough for daily use
  • Business-first: you start from the decision a merchant, marketer or finance lead needs to make, not from the technology
  • Consumer-obsessed: you want to know what customers say, buy, reorder and abandon, and why
  • Cost-conscious: you get best-in-class results with lean tools and a small team, and you know the cost per task of every model you run
  • Clear translator: you explain what an agent does and how far to trust it in plain language to executives
  • Trustworthy and discreet: you handle customer, financial and company data with care

How You Operate

  • You ship early, measure how people use it, and improve it every week
  • Agents propose and a person approves; nothing posts to NetSuite or releases a payment without validation and review
  • You fix data problems at the source and leave every system better documented than you found it
  • You're warm and direct, and you communicate early and often

About the Role

This is a new goop x Trolley role. You will own AI, agents and data intelligence across the company: one trusted view of the business, an agent anyone can ask, and a growing set of agents that run repeatable work. You'll partner with the Director, Commerce & Enterprise Technology, who owns the storefronts, NetSuite and integrations your agents run on.

This is an independent contractor engagement. Selected candidates will contract through Deel, which will make their services available to Elastic Ventures Inc (dba Trolley AI). Services will be performed primarily for Goop Inc. and Trolley AI. This is not an offer of employment with goop or Trolley.

You'll work closely with the Co-CEOs, the executive team, and Finance, Operations, Marketing and Client Experience. You'll guide a small data team: the Manager, Analytics Engineering, who owns the data models and finance and operations reporting, and the Analyst, Consumer Insights & Trends, who owns consumer insights. The Analyst and the Director, Commerce & Enterprise Technology are joining as part of the same new team. Your first 90 days: stand up the insights system, put it into daily use, and ship the first three agents the business has prioritized.

AI AND AGENTS

  • Build custom agents on goop's own data from day one, using LLMs (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini), MCP integrations and AI-native build tools; no off-the-shelf black boxes
  • Own the agent roadmap with each function, starting with the workflows leaders have already named:
  • Finance: Shopify payout, Amazon settlement, gift card and 3PL reconciliations; scheduled commission and bonus calculations; NetSuite journal entries for set GLs; getting more than 50% of month-end close to run automatically
  • Operations: item creation from vendor data to NetSuite and Shopify; PO tracking with proposed ETA changes; a daily 3PL-to-NetSuite inventory check; wholesale order exception routing
  • Marketing and executive team: a daily morning sweep that reports what changed overnight and routes each finding to the person who can act
  • Route each task to the model that fits it best, balancing quality and cost, and report agent cost and accuracy monthly
  • Set the rules for how agents run: human approval points, access controls, audit trail and data privacy

DATA AND MARKETING INTELLIGENCE

  • Build one trusted view of the business across goop.com, goopbeauty.com, Gwyn, Amazon, retail stores and wholesale
  • Own shared metric definitions with Finance and Operations, including new vs. repeat customers, CAC, LTV, ROAS, landed cost and margin by SKU and channel, and wholesale sell-through vs. sell-in
  • Tie marketing, editorial, podcast and PR to revenue, so the team knows which stories and episodes drive traffic and purchases
  • Give anyone at goop answers in seconds, in Slack and the tools they already use, and drive daily adoption across the company
  • Build a company context layer across Slack, Notion and Google Docs, so answers reflect how goop actually works

CUSTOMERS AND CHANNELS

  • Build a single customer view that matches each customer across goop.com, goopbeauty.com, Gwyn, goop's own stores and VIP associates, so repurchase, LTV and best-customer analysis cover every channel
  • Report store performance across goop's stores, including traffic, conversion, sales per associate and basket size
  • Bring in sell-through data from goop Beauty's wholesale partners, such as Ulta Beauty and Bluemercury, to measure sell-through against sell-in

TEAM AND PARTNERSHIP

  • Guide and develop the Manager, Analytics Engineering and the Analyst, Consumer Insights & Trends, and grow the team as the work proves its value
  • Partner with the Director, Commerce & Enterprise Technology on the data stack, integrations and data quality
  • Assess current tools and contracts, and recommend what to keep, replace or build

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: 8–10+ years in data science, analytics engineering, machine learning or software engineering, including 2–3+ years leading people or programs. A track record of shipping AI agents or data products that a whole company uses. Experience at a physical consumer goods brand with DTC, retail and wholesale channels is strongly preferred; beauty, fashion or wellness is a plus.
  • Technical skills: Strong SQL and Python. Hands-on building with LLMs and agents, including MCP or similar tool integrations, retrieval and evaluation. Experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake), APIs and data pipelines. Working knowledge of Shopify, NetSuite and Amazon data. Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (computer science, engineering, statistics, math, economics or data science) preferred.
  • Skills: Strong product sense. Able to set priorities across many requests and say no with a reason. Able to explain models, data and risk in plain language to non-technical leaders.
