About us

H2 Cognitive Designs (H2CD) is a health technology company working at the intersection of cognitive science, clinical research, and large-scale digital assessment. We build platforms used to measure cognitive performance across clinical trials, occupational health programmes, and large institutional deployments in the UK and internationally.

Our clients include demanding and security-conscious organisations across healthcare, national institutions, and sectors where the performance and reliability of what we build matter. We have a rapidly growing portfolio of significant projects, and this role plays an important part in how we deliver them.

About the role

This is an entry-level engineering role. You will support major projects led by senior developers while learning and developing as a professional, helping to build and maintain web and mobile app-based cognitive testing and remote clinical assessment solutions for healthcare providers, academic partners, and related industries, working closely with senior engineers who guide the technical direction.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs for integration with other systems
  • Implement responsive and accessible user interfaces for web and mobile platforms
  • Submit pull requests for code review, and participate in reviews of your own work to support code quality and knowledge sharing
  • Participate in all Scrum ceremonies and pick up tickets brought into the sprint

Software Maintenance

  • Ensure software operability across various devices, browsers, and platforms
  • Monitor software performance and implement optimizations as needed
  • Respond efficiently to reported software maintenance and defect requests
  • Maintain accurate version control and documentation of reported issues and remedial actions taken
  • Implement bug fixes and enhancements promptly

Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Write and execute unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests
  • Help identify software defects and escalate potential security vulnerabilities to team members for resolution
  • Follow established industry standards for security and data protection in all code you write
  • Apply best practices for test-driven development when appropriate
  • Maintain test documentation and test coverage

Professional Development

  • Take part in company-supported certifications and other learning opportunities as part of your ongoing professional development
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices
  • Participate in team meetings and initiatives to support business growth
  • Contribute to research and evaluation of new technologies
  • Receive mentorship from senior team members and share what you learn as your expertise grows
  • Contribute ideas to technical challenges

General

  • Work in line with company policies, including information security, data protection and quality management requirements.
  • Take part in team meetings, training and continuous improvement activity.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role, as required.
