Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Purchase professional with strong knowledge of steel procurement for our Railway / Rolling Stock manufacturing operations.
The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end procurement of steel and other metal raw materials, vendor development, price negotiation, purchase planning and ensuring timely availability of material as per production and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage procurement of steel raw materials such as MS, HR, CR, stainless steel, plates, sheets, coils, sections, tubes and other steel products.
- Source materials as per required grade, thickness, size, specification and quality requirements.
- Identify, evaluate and develop reliable steel suppliers and vendors.
- Float enquiries/RFQs, evaluate quotations and prepare comparative statements.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules and commercial conditions with suppliers.
- Monitor steel market prices and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, Quality, Stores and Engineering teams for material requirements.
- Ensure timely procurement and uninterrupted material availability for railway production/projects.
- Follow up with suppliers for order execution, dispatch and delivery.
- Ensure supplier compliance with technical specifications, quality requirements and applicable railway/RDSO/customer standards.
- Review material test certificates, inspection requirements and relevant documentation in coordination with Quality.
- Handle Purchase Orders, vendor records, MIS and procurement documentation through ERP.
- Develop alternate sources to reduce dependency and supply-chain risks.
- Monitor supplier performance relating to quality, cost and delivery.
- Visit suppliers whenever required for vendor development, evaluation and commercial discussions.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of steel procurement and raw-material sourcing.
- Good understanding of steel grades, specifications, sizes and weight-based costing.
- Experience in vendor development and supplier negotiation.
- Knowledge of railway / rolling stock manufacturing will be preferred.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and production requirements.
- Strong commercial and analytical skills.
- Good communication and negotiation skills.
- Working knowledge of ERP/SAP is preferred.
Qualification
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy or related engineering discipline.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in purchasing steel/raw materials for a manufacturing environment and should be comfortable handling suppliers, negotiations, commercial evaluations and urgent production requirements.
Railway industry experience or exposure to railway/rolling-stock specifications and approved supplier systems will be an added advantage. Current railway procurement roles similarly emphasize steel grades, raw-material sourcing, supplier development, negotiation and coordination with Production/QA/Planning.
Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
