Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Employment: Full-Time, Permanent Schedule: Monday to Friday, with flexible start and finish times Salary: $73,000–$110,000 per year, depending on experience Start date: January 1st, 2027. Open to change in start date upon discussion
About SJB
SJB Industrial Technologies Ltd. is a Canadian consulting engineering and manufacturing company located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We support projects from initial concepts through engineering, development, testing, and fabrication, with particular expertise in jet-bore mining technologies developed through extensive work in the mining and oil and gas industries. We develop practical solutions for complex problems.
The Role
We are seeking a Mechanical EIT or Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team. This position provides the opportunity to work on industry-leading projects in the mining and oil & gas sectors and be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle—from initial concept and engineering through fabrication, testing, commissioning, and field implementation.
At SJB, our engineers are directly involved in bringing their designs to life. Our in-house capabilities include CNC machining, 3D printing, QA/QC, testing, and nondestructive testing. Rather than handing a completed design to another department, you will have opportunities to participate directly in the fabrication, assembly, and testing of the equipment you design.
Typical work will include a combination of mechanical design, engineering calculations, high-pressure water-jet tooling development, fabrication support, testing, and field work at industrial sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the mechanical design of jet bore tooling, data-acquisition systems, and other support equipment.
- Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, models, and technical documents.
- Create and review 3D CAD models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings.
- Select and specify mechanical components, materials, and equipment.
- Support the manufacture and assembly of SJB-designed equipment.
- Investigate equipment performance and develop solutions to technical problems.
- Support field activities, equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting when required.
- Maintain clear communication with clients and project stakeholders throughout the engineering process.
What You Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or similar, from an accredited program.
- Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Saskatchewan.
- 0–5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience with 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently and perform engineering calculations and technical problem-solving.
- Willingness and ability to perform hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing work.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of industrial site work, including climbing stairs and occasionally lifting up to 50 lb.
- Willingness to complete required safety training, including fall-protection training where required.
- Valid driver’s license
Additional Beneficial Skills
The following experience is considered an asset but is not required:
- CNC programming, machining, or fabrication experience.
- Previous work at mines, refineries, or other industrial sites.
- 3D printing and additive manufacturing experience.
- CFD or FEA simulation experience, with COMSOL experience considered an asset.
- Experience towing or driving with a trailer.
- Experience working around cranes.
- A farming background or other hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment would be considered an asset.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary of $73,000–$110,000, depending on experience.
- Bonuses based on company performance.
- Flexible daily start and finish times.
- Training and professional development opportunities.
- P.Eng. mentorship and opportunities to develop toward professional registration.
- A small-team environment with significant exposure to all stages of engineering projects.
- A varied work environment combining engineering design, fabrication, testing, and field implementation.
- Banked time at 1.5 rate for overtime work.
Travel & Site Work
