Summary
As a Field Service Engineer at JSD, you play a critical role in keeping our customers’ high‑precision electronics production lines running at peak performance. You’ll work hands‑on with advanced manufacturing technologies, providing expert installation, start‑up, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of JSD‑supplied equipment. Depending on the project, this may also include planning, scheduling, coordinating, and advising customer teams. The role requires detailed documentation of all job activities and extensive travel (50–75% overall). This includes both domestic and some international trips. Because of these requirements, candidates must reside within reasonable commuting distance of a major airport.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform or lead complex equipment installation, commissioning, operational testing, diagnostic evaluations, repairs, and system overhauls.
- Perform advanced maintenance on tools, test equipment, and systems, and complete detailed documentation of all installations, inspections, maintenance and repair work, and equipment failures.
- Respond to complex service calls and interface with customer personnel to provide high-quality technical support, structured problem evaluation, and resolution.
- Assess product/equipment/application performance based on field support data and recommend corrective actions, system upgrades, or performance improvements.
- Troubleshoot potential problems using systematic diagnostic methods and provide effective solutions related to hardware, software, system integration, and process operations.
- Perform or guide technical evaluations of complex system performance and support engineering-driven modifications or improvements.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and hands-on training to junior technicians and support staff.
- Deliver structured product and operational training to customer maintenance teams.
- Support and interface with customer networks, IT infrastructure, SQL databases, and servers, as required for system integration and troubleshooting.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong mechanical, electrical, analytical, and software troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to logically troubleshoot complex hardware, software, application and process related issues. Be able to convey this information in a way the customer understands.
- Must be fluent in English both written and spoken.
- Must be able to work overtime and weekends, as needed.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Must meet eligibility requirements to access U.S. military installations and other restricted customer sites.
- Customer-focused with strong communication skills.
Education and Experience
- 2–year Associate's Degree in Engineering, Mechatronics or related field, or 2–5 years of experience in field service.
- SMT experienced preferred.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a customer factory site, from home, or JSD office environment.
Physical Demands:
While performing duties of this job the employee is required to position oneself to work on equipment at customer sites which could include bending, standing, lying on the floor, and leaning to access parts of a machine. Employee must also move from one place to another, remain in one position/place for long periods of time, communicate with others and exchange information. Also, may need to lift or move machine parts or other items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Salary Range
$55,000-$85,000 annually – Overtime Eligible
