Position Summary

The Cannabis Production Lead - Packaging is responsible for overseeing all packaging, labelling, excise stamping, and finished goods preparation activities within a licensed cannabis manufacturing facility. This role provides day-to-day leadership to packaging personnel while ensuring production targets, quality standards, Health Canada compliance requirements, and Good Production Practices (GPP) are consistently achieved.

Key Responsibilities

Packaging Operations

  • Lead daily packaging activities for gummies, vapes, concentrates, pre-rolls, and other cannabis products.
  • Execute production schedules and ensure packaging priorities are met.
  • Coordinate staffing, line setup, material staging, and changeovers.
  • Monitor productivity and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and throughput.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and escalate concerns when necessary.

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure all packaging and labelling activities comply with Cannabis Regulations and internal SOPs.
  • Verify product labels, lot numbers, excise stamps, master cases, and packaging components before release.
  • Maintain Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and complete all required batch records.
  • Support internal audits, Health Canada inspections, and corrective actions.

People Leadership

  • Train, mentor, and supervise Packaging Technicians and temporary staff.
  • Contribute to onboarding and ongoing employee development.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct daily team huddles and communicate production priorities.

Inventory & Materials

  • Monitor packaging component inventories and communicate shortages proactively.
  • Ensure proper reconciliation of cannabis materials and excise stamps.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, QA, and Production teams to maintain uninterrupted operations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Support Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
  • Recommend process improvements to reduce waste, downtime, and errors.
  • Assist in implementing new equipment, packaging formats, and automation projects.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in packaging, manufacturing, food production, pharmaceutical, or cannabis operations.
  • Previous supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Health Canada Cannabis Regulations and Good Production Practices is an asset.
  • Must be highly proficient with computers and technology, including Microsoft Excel, ERP/MRP systems, inventory management software, production scheduling tools, and electronic documentation systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience with inventory control, production documentation, and data entry.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software platforms and digital workflows.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Additional Key Requirement

  • This position requires an individual who is exceptionally comfortable with computers. The successful candidate will be expected to work extensively with spreadsheets, production reporting, inventory systems, electronic batch records, scheduling software, and digital compliance documentation on a daily basis.

Pay: $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
