**GRAPHIC DESIGNER** **(focus on branding, icon design, web design \& web development)**

Lilacs on York Creative Studios exists to provide the expertise, tools, and spaces to help equity\-centered organizations harness the power of storytelling and move their ideas forward. We began in 2010 as a side project focusing solely on graphic design. In the years since, our current scope and capacity evolved out of the full\-time work of our Founder, Alison K. Mason. Her 15\+ years of combined experience in design, strategy, planning and events led her to create a team of designers and strategists serving clients to craft beautiful and unique design \& strategy solutions.

As our team has grown, we’ve stayed true to our foundation–that design and communication go hand in hand. We are unique in our ability to not only produce beautiful design but to simultaneously tighten and refine language and layout to take your idea from good to great. Our secret sauce is that we look at every project through the lenses of design AND strategy.

We do this via three main avenues:

* Graphic design \& communication strategy (branding \& design, visual \& written storytelling and communication strategy) * Creative Retreats for Entrepreneurs * Digital learning products

**WHERE YOU FIT INTO THE PICTURE**

Graphic designers on the design team provide essential support to the print, web, branding and visual storytelling arm of Lilacs on York. We need you to bring your design aesthetic and skill, your strong project management, ownership, flexibility and willingness to learn to our work with clients. We want someone who is passionate about great design, who is also interested in the WHOLE story a design piece tells and is willing to apply critical thinking to every step of a design project. We are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who wants to get in on the ground floor of a growing business. The ideal candidate would be open to working with Lilacs on York for 1\+ years. This is a part\-time contract role that will report directly to the Founder.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

* Study and understand project proposals * Conceptualize visuals based on requirements * Prepare rough drafts and present ideas * Develop illustrations, logos and other designs using software or by hand * Use the appropriate colors and layouts for each graphic * Test graphics across various media * Amend designs after feedback * Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on\-brand

**REQUIREMENTS**

We hope to hear from you if you have at least two years of design experience and you:

* Know how to manage your time to hit deadlines * Have a keen attention to detail—you can tell if one word in a paragraph is a different font * Are highly innovative, flexible and organized—you think on your feet, can roll with unexpected changes and don’t drop balls/miss emails/overcommit your time * Consider problems to be opportunities to be creative but also think ahead to avoid as many problems as you can

Meet these technical requirements:

* Have access to a computer and reliable high speed internet * Have access to the latest versions of the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) * Know how to do light copy editing

**SOFTWARE PROFICIENCY**

* Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop * Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator * Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign * Google Docs

**DESIGN SKILLS**

* Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles * Typography knowledge * Understanding browser capabilities * Creativity and originality * Fluency of ideas

**COMPENSATION**

The pay rate for this position is $40\-50 per hour, depending on experience. The ideal candidate for this position will be hired as a contractor.
