Engineering Manager

Why this role matters

As Lindahl continues to expand, we are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead our engineering and design operations. In this role, you will lead our design team and act as the central technical liaison across project management, site operations, sales, and external Professional Engineers (P.Eng). You will ensure all projects are executed on schedule, strictly adhere to applicable building codes, and optimize available material inventories. Additionally, you will lend technical expertise during the pre-construction phase to support bids through preliminary design concepts and value engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

· Engineering & Design Leadership: Oversee drafting and design teams in translating architectural drawings into precise shop drawings and viable custom railing systems.

· Bid Stage Support: Develop preliminary design concepts and conduct value engineering to optimize material usage, reduce costs, and support the sales team during the bidding process.

· Cross-Departmental Coordination: Serve as the primary technical liaison between Project Managers, Operations, Sales, site teams, and external Professional Engineers (P.Eng) to keep projects on schedule and aligned.

· Technical & Structural Oversight: Review structural calculations, engineering submittals, RFIs, site instructions (SIs), and change orders

· Code Compliance & QA/QC: Implement QA/QC procedures to ensure all engineering deliverables strictly comply with the BC Building Code (BCBC), National Building Code (NBC), and local structural standards.

· Field & Issue Resolution: Resolve technical queries, site issues, and design revisions promptly to prevent project bottlenecks and maintain high-quality deliverables.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in project engineering, structural design, or engineering management.
  • Direct experience in structural design, fabrication, or execution within the railing or construction industry.
  • Proven track record in mentoring and leading junior designers, drafters, and project coordinators.
  • Clear, proactive communication with clients, general contractors, and internal fabrication teams.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills under tight project deadlines.

Technical Skills

  • Strong familiarity with the BC Building Code (BCBC), National Building Code (NBC), and relevant structural standards.
  • Proficiency with structural and drafting software such as AutoCAD, SAP2000, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on experience managing RFIs, submittals, and field changes using ERP systems such as Procore and MS Office Suite.
  • Solid understanding of project management standards (PMBOK principles) and structural processes.
