Job Overview:
As a Wholesale Distribution Operations Manager, you will plan and oversee the company’s local wholesale distribution operations. You will coordinate the movement of orders from stock and dispatch through to delivery, helping ensure that consignments are delivered efficiently and that distribution resources, service levels and operating costs are managed effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate wholesale deliveries and the dispatch of large consignments to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules.
- Organise transport capacity and delivery schedules, adjusting plans when operational needs or delays arise.
- Oversee day-to-day distribution and dispatch activities, monitoring progress and resolving delivery or capacity issues.
- Coordinate with warehouse, sales and purchasing teams to ensure stock availability and accurate preparation of customer orders.
- Monitor stock movements, dispatch records and delivery performance, and address operational issues as they arise.
- Lead and support distribution staff, allocate work and monitor team performance.
- Review distribution costs, service levels and performance data, and recommend practical improvements.
- Prepare accurate operational reports for senior management and maintain relevant distribution records.
- Ensure distribution activities follow company procedures and applicable health and safety and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate with wholesale customers and transport providers to resolve service issues and maintain effective working relationships.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Substantial experience managing transport, dispatch or wholesale distribution operations.
- Experience coordinating high-volume orders, delivery schedules and transport capacity.
- Experience supervising staff and working with warehouse or stock-control teams.
- Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to review operating costs, service levels and performance information.
- Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Good working knowledge of distribution, stock-control or transport-management systems.
- Relevant management experience is essential. A degree in transport, logistics, supply chain or business is desirable; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
