AI Operationalization Lead

About Machinify

Machinify builds the AI operating system for healthcare payment intelligence, combining the minds of industry experts with the power of technology. US healthcare wastes billions of dollars a year inside the claims payment workflow, and Machinify has built a platform to fix that, backed by more than 40 years of payment integrity expertise and a product suite spanning the full claims lifecycle from pre-pay through post-pay. Today, 85+ customers rely on us, including 18 of the top 20 US health plans, covering more than 270 million member lives across commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid. We process over 3 petabytes of claims data and return more than $6 billion in savings and recoveries to our customers every year, with 99% customer retention.

We're now opening a new hub in Bengaluru that isn't a satellite office or a support function: it's a genuine extension of one global Machinify, where local leaders run real teams and own real product and outcomes. The problems our teams solve are hard by design, which is exactly why they haven't been solved before, and why the work is worth doing. Joining now means building Machinify's India presence- its people, culture, and way of working- from the ground up, with real influence over what gets built and how.

About the Role

Machinify is building a dedicated AI Operationalization team, and we're looking for a Lead to run it. Across the company, employees are already using AI tools — Claude, custom Slack bots, one-off scripts and apps — to solve real problems on their own initiative. Some of these "citizen developer" creations are genuinely valuable, but they were built to solve one person's problem quickly, not to run reliably at company scale, under the security, compliance, and support standards Machinify's customers and regulators expect.

The AI Operationalization Lead owns the pipeline that takes those grassroots AI products and turns them into tools the company can actually depend on — hardened, monitored, documented, and owned. Just as important, this role builds the platform, tooling, and repeatable process that make that operationalization faster and cheaper every time, so promoting a citizen-built prototype to a supported internal product stops being a bespoke project and becomes a well-worn path.

What You Will Own

  • Build and lead the AI Operationalization team, setting its charter, intake process, and prioritization model for evaluating citizen-developer AI tools.
  • Define and run a maturity/promotion pipeline that takes a tool from prototype to production: security review, code and architecture review, testing, documentation, and ownership handoff — with a PHI screen early in the pipeline to flag anything that needs to be handed to the US-based compliance team instead of proceeding locally.
  • Design and build the shared platform, templates, and "golden paths" (CI/CD, deployment patterns, reusable components, logging/monitoring hooks) that make it faster to operationalize the next tool than the last one.
  • Partner with Security, Compliance, and Legal on internal AI governance standards before a tool reaches production. This team does not own HIPAA/HITRUST compliance work: part of the role is recognizing when a citizen-developer tool touches protected health information and routing or escalating that work to Machinify's US-based Security and Compliance teams rather than operationalizing it locally.
  • Work directly with citizen developers across the business to understand what they built and why, translate tribal knowledge into supportable systems, and mentor them in engineering practices that make their next build easier to operationalize.
  • Establish ongoing ownership: monitoring, incident response, versioning, and a clear support model for each promoted tool, so operationalized tools don't silently degrade or become orphaned.
  • Track and report on the health of the citizen-developer-to-production pipeline — what's in the queue, what's been promoted, what's been retired — to IT and business leadership.
  • Evaluate and recommend platform, tooling, and vendor choices (internal developer platforms, model routing/gateways, deployment infrastructure) that support the team's mission.
  • Stay current on the AI tooling landscape and bring in newer approaches where they meaningfully improve speed, reliability, or governance — with tradeoffs clearly stated to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including production ownership of systems built by others (rewrites, hardening, or platformization of existing prototypes).
  • Direct experience working with LLM-based tools and frameworks (e.g., Claude, OpenAI, LangChain-style orchestration, MCP-based integrations) at a practical, hands-on level.
  • Experience building internal developer platforms, CI/CD pipelines, or self-service tooling that other engineers or non-engineers use to ship work.
  • Enough working familiarity with HIPAA/HITRUST-style data regulations to recognize when a piece of work touches protected health information and needs to be flagged or escalated — this role is not expected to own that compliance work directly.
  • Experience with generalized process automation beyond LLM tooling — RPA, workflow orchestration, scripting-based automation — since much of what gets operationalized will look more like "automate this repetitive process reliably" than "integrate a language model."
  • Track record of leading a small team or function, including setting process, prioritizing intake, and reporting to leadership.
  • Strong communication skills — able to work with both non-technical "citizen developer" creators and engineering/security stakeholders, and to explain tradeoffs plainly.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity: this is a new function, and part of the role is defining what "done" looks like.
