Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineer to join Manitoba Hydro's Maintenance Engineering Operations Support Department,

supporting critical infrastructure across HVDC converter stations, AC switchyards, and generating facilities. In this role, you will apply

your civil and structural engineering expertise to asset assessments, infrastructure rehabilitation, risk analysis, maintenance

optimization, and capital planning initiatives that ensure the long-term reliability and performance of Manitoba Hydro's HVDC and

generation civil assets. Working with multidisciplinary teams, you will help drive innovative engineering solutions and influence key

asset management and investment decisions.

This is an exciting opportunity for engineers who are passionate about infrastructure integrity, asset management, and solving

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of capital and maintenance projects. Prepare project scope and technical specification documents for

tendering, analyze tenders and make recommendations for the awarding of contracts for ongoing civil work requirements.

  • Prepare, coordinate and monitor cost estimates, justification documents and support data for civil maintenance and capital

work budget preparation and control using existing accounting and scheduling software.

  • Assist in the coordination of required civil engineering design modifications and new designs with the appropriate design

departments to meet civil maintenance engineering department requirements and standards for hydraulic and thermal

generating facilities, staff houses, townsites and other Corporate facilities.

  • Assist in the administration of contracts pertaining to repairs of civil structures, in conjunction with other section staff, other

departments or divisions providing inspections and construction management on site.

  • Provide technical guidance and engineering support to other section technical staff and site staff.
  • Direct Consultants providing design and/or inspection services.
  • Assist in developing lifecycle asset management plans for civil assets.
  • Assist in the coordination, review and monitoring of the safety surveillance and repair programs pertaining to concrete and

earthwork hydraulic structures.

  • Perform investigative studies and prepare reports on fixed civil assets, dealing with operation, modification, repair or

replacement options to assist in the management of capital and maintenance expenditures. Prepare detailed inspection

schedules for buildings and facilities.

  • Duties will require frequent trips to all of Manitoba Hydro's HVDC Stations and to all of Manitoba Hydro's hydraulic and

thermal generating stations. Qualifications:

  • Graduate in Civil Engineering from a University of recognized standing and a minimum of six years related civil or structural

design experience.

  • Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a

specified amount of time).

  • Demonstrated structural design experience in steel, reinforced concrete, and anchor bolt design. And preparation of

specifications and drawings for the same.

  • Demonstrated experience in construction, repair, and commissioning of civil & structural assets.
  • Knowledge of construction procedures and techniques as related to large civil structures.
  • Understanding of the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) conceptual model.
  • Previous supervisory experience would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to cooperate and liaise with employees at various levels, site and field staff, contractors, consultants,

suppliers and others.

  • Have basic working knowledge and appreciation of other fields of engineering and other disciplines related to maintenance

engineering.

  • Possess a good working knowledge of engineering economics and business case analysis.
  • Well organized and be adept at and scheduling a heavy workload in an environment of changing priorities.
  • Mature judgement, the ability to accept and complete multiple assignments and be capable of directing and motivating others.
  • Thorough knowledge of Corporation policies, procedures, and regulations and an appreciation of external environmental and

safety regulations.

  • Field experience would be an asset.
  • Possess and maintain a valid class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
  • Required to travel by all modes of transportation i.e. air, land and water.

Notes/Comments:

  • May be required to work at other locations within the province for limited durations, and where transportation between these

sites may be by small aircraft. Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $48.74-$67.29 Hourly,

$93,398.24-$128,947.78 Annually.
