People are at the heart of what we do. Help us make a difference.
At Verde, we believe cleaner, healthier workplaces and a greener planet go hand in hand with taking care of people. We're a growing, eco-conscious facilities services company with a mission that goes beyond cleaning: creating healthier spaces where people work, learn, and play.
We're looking for an HR Manager who puts people first, builds trust, and knows how to turn good HR practices into meaningful, everyday experiences for employees.
In this hands-on role, you'll support approximately 80–90 employees across Indiana, Missouri, and Tennessee. You'll partner with site managers, connect directly with frontline team members, and help ensure our people have the support, resources, and fair treatment they need to succeed.
This is an opportunity for an experienced HR professional who enjoys being close to the business, solving problems, coaching managers, and making a real difference, not someone who wants to manage HR from behind a desk.
If you're approachable, organized, comfortable working independently, and passionate about creating a positive workplace, we'd love to meet you!
What you'll do
Build relationships and support our people
- Be a trusted, approachable resource for employees and site managers across your assigned territory.
- Coach managers through performance concerns, attendance issues, corrective action, and employee separations.
- Conduct or support workplace investigations, document findings, and recommend appropriate next steps.
- Help foster an inclusive, respectful workplace where employees feel supported and valued.
Make hiring and onboarding a great experience
- Partner with Talent Acquisition and operations leaders to support staffing needs for frontline, supervisory, and site-level positions.
- Coordinate new-hire paperwork, I-9 verification, E-Verify when required, orientation, and first-90-day check-ins.
- Work with staffing agency partners to support temporary staffing needs and employee conversions.
Keep HR compliant, consistent, and organized
- Administer FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other leave requests from initial intake through return to work.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state employment requirements across Indiana, Missouri, and Tennessee.
- Help implement HR policies and handbook updates consistently across locations.
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready personnel files, I-9 records, and other required documentation.
Partner on safety, payroll, and employee retention
- Coordinate workers' compensation claims with Operations, Safety, and insurance partners.
- Support incident reporting, OSHA recordkeeping, safety training follow-up, and the safe use of cleaning products and personal protective equipment.
- Maintain accurate employee information in ADP and partner with Payroll on timekeeping, employee changes, and corrections.
- Monitor turnover, conduct exit interviews, identify trends, and recommend opportunities to improve retention.
- Bring Verde Vibes, employee recognition, and engagement initiatives to life at the site level.
What makes someone successful in this role?
You don't have to have all the answers immediately, but you should know how to find them, make sound decisions, and follow through.
You'll likely thrive here if you:
- Build trust with people at every level of an organization.
- Can balance empathy with accountability when handling difficult employee situations.
- Are comfortable coaching managers and having candid conversations.
- Enjoy working independently while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate an issue.
- Stay organized and detail-oriented, especially when it comes to documentation and compliance.
- Can communicate clearly and calmly with employees and leaders from different backgrounds.
- Are willing to get out into the field and connect with employees across multiple locations and shifts.
- Take pride in doing things the right way and finding practical solutions when challenges arise.
What you'll bring
Required qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least five years of progressive HR generalist experience, including two or more years in a senior or manager-level role.
- Experience supporting an hourly, frontline workforce across multiple locations. Experience in facilities services, janitorial services, hospitality, logistics, manufacturing, or a similar environment is especially relevant.
- Working knowledge of federal employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and OSHA, along with multi-state employment compliance.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and documenting outcomes.
- Proficiency with an HRIS; ADP experience is preferred, along with Microsoft 365 proficiency.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel up to 25%, including occasional overnight trips.
Nice to have
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
- English and Spanish bilingual skills.
- Experience in a contract services environment with client-site requirements.
